I love the look of the carbon edition. But dont seem to be selling on fle bay

but that really does look good ( maybe when i blow this on up )

and for £140 i think i can do without the bling ( im sure its much more than that )

Well i have the blessing of you to lol, so i guess ill buy it.

Ill order it tomorrow morning, and it will be in my office for friday.

Thanks a lot for all yoru help. Im sure i will haev a thousand more questions for you soon.

Its really great to be able to get info liek this from peopel ( i hope ) that know what they are talking about.

Otherwise this time next week i would have a Raptor 30 on my door, and the next day a dead neighbours dog and a law suit on my hands.

Yeah, the Carbon versions nice but you WILL crash, so stay with the cheap and cheerful version until you feel ready to upgrade.

Any questions regarding learning read this:

      http://www.littlerotors.com/flyinglessons/hovering.aspx

This little article will teach you the basics through to FFF, any other questions post on this site and people that want to help you learn will be more than happy to help.

And don't forget to get plenty of 'sim' time in before you plough your new heli straight into the sofa because you hadn't learnt which stick does what!!

      Hope things go OK

      Regards Rod

Good luck mate, just take your time & have fun with it. It's a buzz when you first lift it off the ground in to a hover & drop it back on to the floor whilst shaking like a leaf

What a fascinating read this lot has been for a newbie!

You know I wonder if you experts have forgotten how difficult it was when you started! I bought my Twister Hawk and have replaced lots of bits as mentioned on other threads. But it is cheap and the newly arrived Phoenix software allows me to practice even more without causing damage.

I went to the model shop in Swindon and was going to buy something large and expensive but I explained my lack of knowledge and they persuaded me to spend less money and get the Hawk. How pleased I am that they did. I am happy to cut my teeth then come back and ask you guys what I should buy next!

So hats off to bubblefish for putting the effort into helping us mere novices.

Of course there are other ways of starting and I am sure you all know what you are talking about, certainly more than me anyway! But for little money I am learning and enjoying my new found hobby without having to go outside in the dark evenings. By the time summer comes I will hopefully be ready to join the ranks of flying officer novice!

                Regards

                Chris

Sensible post Chris, My only advice is get on the Phoenix sim as often as you can, I know it can be tedious just hovering on your own but with these practical steps you won't get any further.

As soon as you feel you can hover the heli at ease turn it right then left and before you know it you will be doing figure eights.

Remember crashing on the sim costs you nothing.

                    Hi Busterboy,

Thanks for the advice. Yes it does make sense to keep crashing on the Phoenix. Sadly I was up until 02:00 messing around on it last night! I must not do that too often

                    Regards

That doesn't necessarily mean you don't know what you're talking about. Heck all my XP is on the Syma Lama 3CH, so I am a complete newbie, with 1 50' crash and 2 kitchen lights under my belt  I'm definitely still learning. I soon got the hang of 'nose in' flight, but that's rudder, next step in is a 4ch and skidding right when it's left and vice versa. I only ever wanted a cheap indoor one for some fun too....

Now I'm getting kind of hooked and when I can find the time spending more time with that than on my PC, which incidentally I'm addicted too, so maybe this RC heli business is a good thing.

hmm i agree with bubblefish in some manners and aspects like for example getting the pheonix sim befor smashing your band new heli into the ground and giving up on the hobbey however.

I started with a Co-Axial Apache and not the basic £99 model...it was abit bigger maybe 18inches long. also it was abit more powerfull as it employed the use of 2x180 motors. its nice to see it fly at first but i quickly learned direction and moving around , after my first day of charging running it down and charging again i could fly it around my GF's living room quite confidently. Next step was my front street on a calm day , this was easy. i was flying around the street and in through my bedroom window after owning the heli for a week.......unfortunately thats as far as i got as i was assaulted and my heli stolen during my next flight , im not going to get another co-axial though far from it . im investing in the pheonix sim and a T-Rex 600 Nitro with a kick ass set up , yeah sure its a £1000-1300 set up but so what. if i take my time , be gentle , practice on the simulator and just try hovering the heli little bits at a time with a decent training gear on chances of me smashing it are less that that of a co-axial as the 50 size is more stable.

sure fuel types and tools etc are more cost and more knowlege but the forum helps you out with the knowlege part. all it takes is patience. if i rush into it and take it 40feet in the air im going to break it 100% guaranteed. if i take my time , hoving maybe 30cm high or lower till im used to its behaviour and practicing on the sim alot chances of me smashing it are minimal, still a chance but a very slim one =)
