Hi all, just thought I'd introduce myself to the forum.
My name's Brian, and I've been interested in remote control helicopters for many years but the steep learning curve and the cost of gaining experience kept me away. Now that incredibly small motors have made cheap, small indoor helicopters a reality I thought I'd give it all a try. My plan is to start off with a cheep and cheerful indoor helicopter, then once I've got the hang of that try something a bit more complicated until eventually I get good enough to build or buy an outdoor one.
I've bought a little indoor one from Airhogs and it's actually quite a lot of fun! I crashed it quite a few times when I first started flying it, but I've got the hang of it now so I think I'll consider moving up to something a bit more complicated.
During one of my early crashes I managed to catch the main rotor and it took a small piece off the corner of it. This affects the helicopter in flight - it spins uncontrollably at first, but eventually I'm able to trim it out. Unfortunately though there seems to be a bit of an imbalance in the rotor now (despite only a very small piece being taken away) and I'm not able to trim that out during flight. The helicopter is seen to oscillate a little - it hovers for a while, then darts clockwise for a bit, then hovers again. I was thinking about trying to add a bit of extra weight to the damaged rotor to see if I can balance it out, but I don't hold out much hope for that to be honest!
Anyway, I hope you will all welcome me to the forum and I hope the more experienced members will be patient with my inexperienced questions!
Brian
