Hello, i am new to this forum.

    I have purchased a Raptor 30 V2 and have a few questions.

    1. With what do you balance the rotor blades? I know you use a blade balancer, but how do you actually adjust the balance?

    2. With anybody familiar with the XTR sim, does the stock Raptor 30 V2 use a heading hold gyro in XTR? because i have bought the TG-8000 gyro (as recommended by Thunder Tiger) but i dont know if this paticular gyro is a heading hold gyro.

    And finaly

    3. Does anybody know a website of the Laws of flying a RC Heli in the UK (if their are such laws)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanx

    Nev

    Hi Nev,

Welcome to the hobby and to this site!

There are a few things you will need to balance a set of blades, a good set of kitchen scales is one and some way of balancing the blades horizontally, this could be home made, or something like a Quick UK or Robart specifically made balancing tool.

    To answer your question on how you actually balance a set of blades, have a read of this thread;

    http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/module...iewtopic&t=125

The XTR sim does have a HH mode, I think the default setting is on, but it is switchable from the transmitter so you will need to check the settings on the sim and transmitter. The TG-8000 does not have a HH mode, it is purely a standard rate gyro. It will see you past the learning to hover stage okay, but you will find it so much easier if you upgrade to a HH gyro and a good digital tail servo at some stage.

In terms of sites with the laws and do's and dont's of flying, there is only really one that comes close, which is www.bmfa.org this is the British Model Flying Association, they are the govering body for model flyers in the UK. You will need to join in order to get your insurance for flying, it is 23 per year. If you buy your insurance now, as it is close to the end of the year and their policies run from Jan to Dec, you will be charged the whole amount this year but will get a credit note for some of it with your membership details to use next year.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

      Nev,

Firstly welcome to the site, if your using the stock blades you can actually either buy a blade balancer they can range from they range from 18.00 upwards.

Alternatively, there is a manual way which is easier to show that explain.

This useful bit of info is found at the back of most Robbe Manuals, there are few in the downloads to pic from.

I'm not very familiar with the Gyro you've chosen, if it has tail lock on it then its a HH gyro, if not then you'll have too dial in some Revo Mixing into the tail to compensate for the engine torque. What transmitter have you got ?

On XTR the Gyro is set on the model and can be HH or not the choice is yours. I've had XTR for about a month now and I've been trying to break it ......I'll be writing up a little review soon.

What I can say for now is that yes is graphics are amazing, but its lacking in the way the user has to interact with changing parameters, still has a way to go to meet G2 standards.

With regards to the law, yes we are regulated by the British Model Flying Association a copy of the handbook can be found here.

Also the BMFA website is http://www.bmfa.org/

Hope this helps you out, any further questions just shout.
      Cheers

          Hi,

Thanx for all your help you have been very helpfull!

My transmitter is a Futaba T6X its just a budget Transmitter.

One more question. How important is it to strip the engine down and clean it before you bench test it? I am a bit scared with pulling the engine appart as this is the first time i have done anything like this before!! My engine is the Thunder Tiger 39 engine.

Again thanx for all your help

          Nev

              Howdy Dave,

No theirs nothing wrong, its just that i have Rays Authoratative heli manual and he suggests that you should dismantle all engines clean them and put them back together prior to using it. And i thought that because that book is the 'bible' of heli tuition, so i heard.

I was not looking forward to pulling the engine apart in case i messed it all up, and i'm glad you are pushing me into the right direction before i do mess things up!

                Hi Nev,

Dave is right, unless the motor has a problem of some sort it is best to leave it alone and just install it in the model. The Thuder Tiger 39 is a good robust motor and will need very little in the way of maintenance.

The book you are refering to "Ray's Authoritive Heli Manual" was written some years ago, and although it contains lots of very useful information, some of it is now out of date. As such, although still a good source of reading material, it is best to seek a more up to date view, either here or from other members in your club.

                Cheers,

                Pete.

                  Hi Warrior

Apart from the engine advice, how have you found RAHM ?

I'm yet to pick up a copy - worth it ?

Stuart and Pete - great advice - this thread is useful !

                    Great for mixing epoxy on.

As for blade balancing, not required in this day & age. I've been flying about 6 or 7 years now & never had to balance a set, bolt em on & fly.

Same for the engine, bolt it in, carefully run in & fly.

BMFA Website for all the rules & regs. Good site too.

I have RAHM as I was also told it was the bible...
Unfortunately its an old bible and the characters have changed a bit
Im not inpressed and always turn to the net, In most cases as I have a Raptor as well I use RaptorTechnique.com.

Mix epoxy on it huh... Never thought of that, good idea, at least it will come in as some use

                      Cheers,
