  • So, how do you drive this thing then?

When I get home from work my shiny new helicopter will be waiting for me
My only previous flying experience was with one of those toy co-axial thingies which lasted a couple of days before it was more tape and araldite than original chassis and it was consigned to the bin...

So, I'll be greeted to a Blade mSR-X, DX6i, batteries and charger when I get home, woo hoo!

Having never seven seen any of this kit before, let alone used it, will I be able to get going straight out of the box? i.e charge batteries, stuff them in, switch on and fly? or, is it more complex than than that?
Do they come with decent, numpty-first-timer-friendly instructions or will I end up lost and confused?

    Any advice appreciated,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

You have to program in the settings for the msrx on th DX6i, however these are all clearly written in the manual, and then you'll have to bind them together. Everything you need is explained in the manual, so you should be flying within about an hour .

        lol

It might also be a good idea to program dual rates into the DX6i as well for the aileron and elevator, and add some expo (around 30%) when the dual rates are turned on. This will make it easier to control when you want (by 'softening' the controls at mid-stick, allowing for more precise control), by flicking a switch. The DX6i manual explains how to do this on page 83

          Awesome, thank you.
I was just about to do some panicky Googling when I read the first bit but calmed down at "The DX6i manual explains how to do this on page 83 "

Make sure you have plenty of space, although they're billed as indoor helis they can still cover 20ft into an LCD TV pretty quickly.

Nope! It'll take you some time to even hover!

                  Thanks all, duly noted!
Well, it's all arrived, I did email the supplier to ask them to deliver it to my works address but they didn't reply so I assumed it was going to my home.
But, it's just arrived here at work, happy days!!!

Anyway, I've had a quick look at everything, don't understand a word so will have to wait until I'm home for a proper play.
The transmitter thing has Seventeen different switches and buttons that I've counted so far, bit different to the up/down/left/right that I'm used to...

I imagine what will happen is that I'll attempt to try and dial in the EXPO, fail, fly it anyway, stuff it into the ceiling/wife/telly/dog and snap the rotors.
Once the heli' is safely broken I can then order spares and will be forced to sit down and properly absorb the instructions whilst I'm waiting for them to arrive. Just going on past performance anyway
                  Eh?

Setting up the expo is very easy mate. You will be fine. Any problems or questions then just ask us lot and we will make sure you are sorted. The dx6 is not as complicated as it may appear

Thanks for that, trouble is it's all so new I just don't understand any of it. I have to google pretty much every single acronym, expression and initial that people use. One thread I was reading yesterday actually made me laugh out loud, it may as well been written in Dutch for all that I understood of it!
I know now what EXPO, swashplate, TX/RX, pitch and lipo actually mean now so it's a start
                          Eh?

Half the battle is learning the jargon for sure. You want to use the dual rates available on the dx6 too. This basically limits the extent of the different controls. So with 100% rates on the aileron it will move to the max that is available. If you dial in 50% it will limit its travel by 50%. Just imagine your arm works the same.... at 100% you can stretch your arm out straight..... but with 50% it will only go half way... Sorry if that sounds patronising. Just trying to help you understand the functions that are available to you

Not patronising at all! thanks for the helpful explanation. I just had to google aileron though lol
As a heli' doesn't have aileron's (if my Googling is correct) then it just does the same job (roll?) by altering the swashplate, is that right?

Actually, is there a real newbie guide somewhere that covers all this stuff? I couldn't see a sticky
