  • Recommendations for Parts

    Hi,
I've just bought a 'built' Graupner Radio controlled helicopter, Replica Ecureuil 2 AS355 with an OS32 engine.

The starter is underneath the fuselage. Is there a flexible connector I can use or do I just hold the heli at 45degrees to start it?

Can anyone recommend a shop with a good on-line site where I can buy bits & pieces?

    Thanks
    Arthur

Not very familiar with that make of heli but Motors & Rotors will be

    http://www.motorsandrotors.com/home.htm

    Also try

    Midland Helicopters
    http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/ac...eNavigator.htm

    And

    Skyline
    http://www.skylinemodels.co.uk/

Most I suspect will just tilt the heli over and start it.
    Cheers
    Stuart

If it's Vario style then the starting stance is to have a table and you cant the model over on one skid untill you can get the starter lined up .
It must be an old Graupener because the newer scale mechanics ie Expert and the like all top start.
One word of warning when I was going through my Vario phase I got a bad bout of tennis elbow - caused by having to hold the starter in such an awkward way.

          Hi Dave.
Sorry to hear about your tennis elbow, that must have been right painful,I have no medical knowledge but can make a suggestion that might help you. BUY YOURSELF A DECENT MOTOR THAT DOES NOT TAKE YOU AN HOUR TO START.
          GOOD FLYING.
          Mo.

            Still flying Mo ?

I read an old post today that said you were chucking in the towel.

Good to see you're still here.

Looking forward to reading further posts from you.

              Hi Kiwipilot.
I do not know who is flying with the weather we are having in the U/K,perhaps the only ones flying regular will be "helidad" who lives down under and "wazzer" in Burma.
I have had the odd outing with that heli I could not bear to part with, and it is damn hard to quit something that at times could give you such a buzz.
I get a great deal of my pleasure reading the posts of you guys ,and at times have to poke my nose in for a personel opinion.
In regards to taking it up again full time,I spent a long time making up my mind to quit, but time spent doing the housework, can sure make you forget the bad times at my field and start the itching off again.
WE SHALL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE WHEN I GET MY NEW CRUTCHES.
              GOOD FLYING.
              Mo.

My missus left me recently, I now have to do all the housework, ironing, shopping etc. but I can't understand how that could make me feel like being at the field was bad, far from it.

BTW mo what's the reason for the crutches, 8O if you don't mind me asking.

I've had a few broken bones in my time, crutches are a pain in the a$$, a neccesary evil.

Where are you based Mo ?

Bit wet to fly here at present too. Getting in sim time though.
Have only flown on buddy box before.

Itching to get my own heli finished, checked and airborne.

                    Hi TC.
I dislike housework to such an extent, it has made the bad times at our field (of which there were many)seem like a holiday, and that was what I was trying to get across, my wife is unfortunatly suffering from a back complaint, and being a housewife and nurse is not in my league,in fact I have suprised myself in how good I am becoming, and also frightened I may in time start to enjoy doing this.
In refferance to crutches, this was just another of my silly remarks and thankfully I am in no need of them.
You are making a fine contribution to the forum and hope you keep up the good work.
To "Kiwipilot" on the question of my whereabouts,I live close to the Medway towns, and not too great a journey should he wish for a try of my G2 sim,or glean from me what little that I know about flying model heli's.
                    GOOD FLYING.
                    Mo.

                      Hi Mo
Thanks for your concern - but my Vario phase was in 1989 - you see I've been flying Heli's since 1974 - As far as engines go have used the same make since day one O.S. 's - they cost a bit more than some and are less powerfull than some but never cause any problems and just let me get on with flying.
                      Dave

ps - I 've noticed you use a lot of capital letters - this usually conveys the feeling that the poster is shouting . I'm old but not yet DEAF !
If it's not fun, your not doing it right !!

Might take you up on that offer when I am in your neck of the woods

Haven't yet been to that part of the UK.

                          Hi Dave.
Sorry about the capitals, this is no reflexion on yourself, but with my dodgy eyesight I must at least get my punch lines right.
I do not look on you as old, and for christ sake that is the last thing you must call yourself,in my estimation and hoping you must have started in your teens, you are not yet 50 years, and also in my estimation that is still being a baby.
Go on Dave',tell me I have screwed up again.
I very nearly put that above line in capitals.Force of habit caused by deafness.
                          GOOD FLYING.
                          Mo.

                            Hi Mo
Your way out in guessing my age - Like you I am retired - But I'm obviously going through some age related crisis thing as I have just gone back to motor bikes " see my gallery".
This tickled my fancy the other day :- some ageing rocker on the Radio was asked how he was feeling having reached the grand age of 60 , his reply made my laugh out loud -" If I'd known I was going to live this long I'd have looked after myself a bit better " it's so true.
                            Dave

                              Hi Dave.
Being so utterly wrong in my estimation of your age has given me some heart,I was under the impression that the sport was designed only for the young bloods with no responsibilities and super sharp minds.
The fact that you are retired, and yet still have the go in you to run through a gallon of fuel,is in my eyes nothing short of a miracle.
Perhaps it is the fact that you have not broken from the sport at any time, in my case a couple of tanks and I have got to have a lie down or I am sure it will mean a heart attack.
Good on you Dave',and the fact of aging is how you see it,you can act as you look, or just stop looking at the clocks.
Although like you have, I would love to go back to those mad biking days,
and still have the urge to do just that, but the image is an important factor in my case, and I am sure I would look plain stupid.
                              All The Best.
                              GOOD FLYING.
                              Mo.
