  • Hello All :)

    Hi All,

    New here
Been into RC models for years, owned everything from cars, boats to planes, just never a helicopter.
had one of the £20 models one christmas but it broke and was prompt binned!

now im here to have a bash at the proper stuff, so as advised by some chums, i went out and bought a little 3ch Syma S032G to have a play with and see how i got on before i fork out the big bucks for something bigger.

anyways, i got it out the box, read the instructions, ensured it was charged and ready to go. TX on, Chopper on, throttle full open and close and were ready to fly. only problem is i move the throttle literally 1 click up and the thing is about 6ft off the ground, if i continue to throttle up it just hits the roof and well comes back to ground rather quick and uncontrolled. Every video i have seen shows the S032 sitting on the ground allowing the blades to spin up before lifting off. mine just goes from nothing to everything meaning its so hard to control the height as its either throttle on to gain height or throttle off to let it fall before trying to regain control when the throttle goes back on

tried everything, from flying in another location, to making sure im at least 2-3m away from the helicopter. it does get easier to control as the battery dies, but then this means i get a 2 minute flight if that!

anyone seem this before or have any ideas as to what might be the issue? or do i return it the shop?

Its the 40Hz S032G version that i have

    Thanks
    Ron

    Hey mate.

Yeah those cheap little choppers have brought a lot of people into the hobby eh?

Bad news is your chopper is crap by all accounts. And the lack of flexibility in the transmitter means that you have no where to go. having said that I assume you have found the novice/advanced setting for it? I think it can go between the two?

Best thing would be to get rid of it. Then buy a proper controller (DX6/DX7) and an MCPX if you have fast reactions and really want to get into big CP helis eventually. . Or an MSR if you aint so sure.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I kinda thought that might be the answer i got!

I think from the few flights i have had out of the S032G, im hooked enough to spend a little more on something and go from there. something with more flexibility and options.

I was looking at going for a HoneyBee V2 as this seemed to be a popular choice of a 4ch for help beginners to start on, but always wandered if it was worth going for something a little more.

As a newbie, is the MCPX better/worse than the likes of the honeybee? are they as good even if they are smaller?

i like the idea of getting it as a BnF so the DX6/7 can be used on future heli's to save forking out time and time again for new radio gear.

Get a Blade MSR to learn the ropes. Great fixed pitched learner to get your head round the control inputs that are going to be required. I think the MCPX would be too much for you at this stage personally. Or if you are a fast learner.... get Phoenix sim and an MCPX. Practice hard on the sim then try the MCPX

The best way to approach this hobby is one step at a time. It can be very frustrating and if you get something that is too demanding too early it could put you off the hobby. Take your time and take it step by step. Try to resist the temptation to rush through the early stages. Blade MSR all the way for a beginner. Trust me.... Its the best way to go. Or try the MSRX that is due for release very soon.

          Thanks SaneAdam,

Looking at the MSR and the MCPX, the MSR does seem the sensible route to go, along with a sim, then progress to an MCPX or another CP help

Just got to find somewhere that has one in stock and reasonably priced

If you're flying inside then definately get the MSR. The MCPx really is a handful inside and if you get it wrong it'll do damage to things that the MSR wouldn't.

              Tis true.

But I went from a picoz to MCPX and never regretted it. Do have a gouge out of one of my walls though,... wife not happy!

To be honest though - I have subsequently been given an MSR as a gift and flew it about 4 times before sticking it in a drawer. MCPX is a lot more fun and i am still using it to progress today (managed my first flips on it recently - great feeling! So it has basically taken me from my first hovers to doing simple inverted stuff. Best value heli around.

I think MSR then MCPx makes a lot of sense. I did my first flips on my MCPx too, and I learnt nose in with it. You can't beat it to learn the basics on, but unless you've got a huge room, or you're some kind of 3D god, it's not an indoor heli really.

Dont get me wrong - MSR is a good wee heli.... but you WILL grow out of it... and if you have a bit of natural talent you will grow out of it VERY quickly.

Take the money you save on not getting an MSR and buy phoenix (£50 second hand is reasonable) for your PC. MCPX (loads of 2nd hand deals) and maybe a 2nd hand DX7 if you can find one. Perfect entry to 'proper' heli flying IMHO.

My practice room is big - but not massive. When you start out you just need some balls.... and preferably a kitchen work top to hide behind if it all goes pear shaped (I did )

If you're patient wait for the msrx to come out it will be much more like a cp heli in the way it reacts, msr's try to self correct resulting in a pendulum effect which cp helis don't do - they go where you tell them to. I found that the flybarless fp heli I had didn't pendulum and if you look at the HH blurb they say it doesn't so it should be a much better option.
If you are not patient get yourself Phoenix and a new or used dx6i - this will be the best money you will ever spend IF you can get on with flying on a sim.
Good luck m8, have fun and enjoy it!

                          Thanks for all the replies.
Few options to look at and consider now

When does the msrx come out?

                          Cheers

THe MSRX should be out anytime now. It was supposed to be mid December.
