Trex 600n some basic questions...

Hi All,
I have just bought a Trex 600n from a guy at the local heli club and just had some questions, i dont want to keep hasseling him and hes hard to get hold of so i thought i would ask here

1, mines has a Key that goes in the right hand side that acts as an electrical cut off as sorts, is this normal on the 600 as all the other canopies i have seen dont have a hole for the key..

2 I want to get a new battery for it, is it a 2s 7.4v lipo ? can enyone please post a link to a decent battery ?

3 i notice it has no horizontal tail fin but there are lots of them with the spares he gave me, but the mount does not allow them to be fitted .. do i need the horizontal tail fin ?

4 can i put decals on a plastic canopy ?

I am confident it is set up correctly as he is well respected at the club and seems to know an awfull lot about helis etc, he came to my house and binded it to the radio and set it all up.. these were just some questions i forgot to ask him.

1. yes this is normal for the fromeco setup that he (i'm guessing Al??) had on his 600 when he was flying it. It's called a pin flag & is in replacement of a normal switch.

2. yup, 2s 7.4 is the size you want. I use an outrage 3600mah pack on mine and get minimum 6 flights on it.

3. You don't need a horizontal fin, they are that small they really don't do very much for the model.

4. yes you can but the nitro will eventually cause them to peel off anyway.

2 i have a standard align rx pack if your intrested for the price of postage
3 no its not needed and i personally think they look better with out
4 yeah but wont last very long with the oil!

A horizontal fin helps keep the heli straight in forward flight.
Forgot to add, you could use a turnigy 2s lipo 2200 mah ,theyre cheap and reliable and you will get about 4 flights out of it.but you dont want a lipo lets say 4000+ mah onwords as it can be too heavy for the heli

yeah i looked at these before but i decided against them as theyseem to have "hivis decals.com" plastered on them....which to me is a bit odd, i dont think i should have to advertise for them...pity cos they look good otherwise

the reason you have loads of horizontaol tail fins is its easy to break the vertical one on the ground, and replacements come in a pack with a horizontal one too.

You probably have a quick uk 3D upgrade rear boom clamp with no facility for horizontal fin.

The pin flag setup on your reg is a good one. It fails "on" if the switch fails. By the way don't leave the lipo conected to the regulator all the time as thereis usually a slight trickly current that wil eventually drain the lipo.

You need 2000-3000mAh lipo. A couple of 2200 lipos works for me as it keep the heli light. The std align reg lipo is only 1900 and doesn't last many flights so most poeple upgrade them to a larger one. The actualy number of flights varies with the servos you have - align DS610 are among the hungryest - BLS451 are among the most frugal for current consumption.

but what do i do about the canopies ? do i drill a hole in every new canopy i get ?

No .. just move the pin flag switch .. Should be able to mount it somewhere else on the heli

to be honest, im just wondering why i need to use this key..?
i have to pull it out to run the heli, i unplug the battery anyway when not in use.. whats the point of the shut off key thingy ?

It's a switch mate, nothing more, nothig less. It comes with the Fromeco setup that your using & Al has always used it with zero issues.

dont really know what Fromeco setup is mate, but the only issue i have is, i dont want to go cutting into my nice new conopy if i dont have too ..
i still dont see the point of the switch in a non electric heli, im sure Al said it wont kill the engine.
