Dont worry about using one at all mate.
Time your flights & makes sure you dont take out more than 70% of the total capacity of the pack.
For a 2100mah pack like the revo that equates to 1470mah going back in.

My lipo alarm is a custom idea one.
I found that the wires to the speaker tend to fall off after a bit of vibration. Easily corrected.
I thoink its a worthwhile thing to have. Protects agains accidentally loading a part discharged lipo, and lets you know when your pack is rubbish or too old by going off when you punch the pitch.

They say the best one is the FMS protection thingy from aurorra.

Using the TX timer is okay until you forget to start it,I use a lipo alarm and always try to set the TX timer as well.A timer alone can't allow for the type of flying you do.

As the lipos get old the warning comes on before the timer has finished,so I wouldn't rely on just the TX timer.

There are a couple about 2 ive got the Aurrora one works by monitoring each cell individually.

                http://www.aurorra.co.uk/shop/produc...2&cat=0&page=1

this one alerts you by varying the engine speed, well im not too subtle so I could mis that so ive also got one of these

                http://customidea.com/shop/product_i...roducts_id=102

this one beeps at you nice n loud and there is a green/red led as a warning. The only prob with this one is that it only monitors the voltage of the battery as a whole, having said that as I only use the 4S and its pretty good at keeping the cells in balance ive not had a problem.

all these you can set with whatever voltage you decide you want the battery to dip to.
                All the best

It's supposed to be a last resort - you should stop flying way before the DPM cuts off the power - it is designed to make sure you do not damage your LiPo

thats why I stopped using mine, it kept turning the motor off before I had run the battery flat

I run the HRPolyx and a Cellpro DPM on my Trex, the HRPolyX has been in use for nearly a year and a bit now, saved all my Lipos that has The DPM is a new addition but has been sat in a box for a few months as I got it second hand, it is nice to have the extra security I am not going to trash my lipo if I dont hear/see the alarm going off for low voltage.
