  • which small electric helicopter?

Hi, i have been out of the sport for about 10 years and things have moved on! sorry i have lots of questions!!

    I have a raptor v2 30 with a futaba 9c radio which i can fly circuits with.

I am looking for a small electric helicopter i can fly in the garden. my garden is reasonable size and i can hover and do small figure of 8s with the raptor.

    1) i am quite impressed with the blade mxcp. would this be a good option or would i be better going for a 450 size model?

    2) what shall i do with my futuaba 9c ,it is in new condition and i have several other models (including a 1/3 scale pitts). I have been thinking about adding the spektrum module and upgrading my recievers.

i dont really want to buy a new radio however is it a waste of money converting what i have to 2.4ghz / spektrum?

You will need a 2.4ghz Spektrum if you want an mCPX.
Nothing wrong with staying 35mhz, plenty of spare channels out there now that most use 2.4. 35meg worked well for a very long time.
Spektrum 2.4ghz module for the Futaba 9c is fine.
An expensive change for little or no gain, use up your 35meg gear until you need to change.

Depends how big your garden actually is. Mcpx is a good option. I fly my 450 in my back garden though and its tiny . Working on hovering orientations and really tight fig 8's. A 250 could also be a good option, although both these will be more expensive than an Mcpx by a long way. To purchase and in a crash. The 450 or 250 a much more of a proper heli i think, whereas my Mcpx has been relegated to battering around the place working on inverted stuff. It will also be much better in a crash though. 450's are brilliant helis..... small enough to fly in a reasonable sized garden but then big enough to take out into a field. As far as radios go the dx6i is a good way to go for not that much money

thanks for the quick responses, my garden is a decent size but surrounded by trees and bushes. I would say the clear area is about the area of a tennis court. I already have a raptor which i can take to the flying field. It sounds like the MCPX is the best option. Money wise i am not bothered about spending out for something decent.

        so as far as radio is concerned the question is;

whether to buy the MCPX with the cheap radio and keep the futaba for my other models (about £30 extra on top of BNF); or buy 2nd hand dx6i spektrum transmitter (£60 ebay), or buy a spektrum module and convert futaba (£115). Would the dx6i be as good as a converted futaba, range etc?

I would go for a Trex 450 Sport/pro if you can fly a Raptor 30 in your garden . Then you could go for an mCPX later on if you wanted.

If your garden is tennis court sized, get a 450 pro.... no question. You will be much happier with it i would think

450 pro/sport all the way if you don't want to spent too much money. Why I am saying this?
Well you will get your self a MCPX ( Great toy I must say )and then you will say to your self " I wish I had a bigger heli " and then you get a 250............ then a 450 bc the 250 is still too small.

              I know I know......

The 450pro is a great bit of kit flys way beter than a 250 of which i also fly. Although you would have more space with the 250 if you fit some flybar weights get a sparton gyro or go fbl and a decent tail servo s a 420 is not up to the job! I can fly my 250 on my way home from work in a patch as the size of your garden practicing slower stuff like fig 8 (backwards and inverted etc...) as long as its not to windy!!!
