hi there guys this is my first post and appologise if this has been asked before

im new to heli flying and have just got a 6ch 450 titan that has lots of aligne parts on it

anyways i belive it would be a good idea to get a radio of quality that can also be programed by a screen rather than pc only

now my problem is i know they got a bit of price to go with and i dont know what to choose. the dx6i was my first option folowed by dx7 for future proof (i realy like spectrum gear) BUT ive read so many things about reliability and am now looking at futaba as i dont want to have loss of control, if i kill my bird i would want it to be my fault and not a technical glitch (i really would of liked a dx8 if i had to spend out on dx7 as they not far apart in price) but what ive herd ands seen its a no go zone

    i was looking at the futaba P-CB7C2-4G : FUTABA 7CH COMBO 2.4GHZ (N) MM R617FS for reliabilty
the only main diff i see is screen not as classy as spectrum and it few quid more but as a radio in quality IS IT A BETTER COICE or am i better off with just a 6 channel ifso what would u recomend and why thanks

p.s i want reliabilty and futureproof AND i am newby thanks all the best terry

    Welcome to the forum Terry.
Spectrum is good, many people use it without problems the DX7 is well used and has a good reputation.

But Futaba just works...... but spend a little more and look at the T8FG it's one hell of a set for little £'s and is all you'll ever need unless you get heavy into scale helis.

Give it until October and spektrum are coming out with a new dx7s. Based on the dx8 platform, and around the £160 mark for the tx only. Though I do fly with a futaba 8fg for my trex 550e v2 fbl. I have also got a dx8 coming tomorrow to fly my eflite helis.

love the look of that first look was 12ch but then i found same radio with 8 ch was it the 8ch u refure to although very expensive but i guess u get what u pay for and in this case i see u get a lot for price in comparrison to similar spec this may be an option but £100-£200 is a hell of a descition for me and that bad boy was £300 but thanks for your advise its going on wish list as an option

I love spectrum. I have had a dx6i , dx7 and now I'm using a dx8. The grate thing abount spectrum in the customer service is second to none. Any problems and they usely surt it and get it back to you in a week. +1 to spectrum (horizon Hobbys)

I had this dilemmanot so long ago mate; the question you need to ask yourself is where do youwant to go with this hobby?

If you are happy just doing simple circuits then the dx6 will be adequate, ifyou want to go down the scale route then you will need extra channels forlanding gear, lighting and so on.

I steered away from the dx models as they still have issues, some will workfine some won't. On saying this they do seem to have a great customer supportso that is reassuring

i want easy programing in the field and want to 1day 3d fly my heli but would also like it to work on planes when the time comes and i dont want things to fall out the sky unless its user error for a long time i would think there gonna be a lot of error pluss i would probly be relying on some 1 else setting it up till i learn what everyting is and does so fairly user friendly thanks

I am in the same boat as you mate. I have been looking at reviews/problems/opinions for a month or so now, whilst I save up.
I think the best future proofing you could do is get the 8FG, it's what I'm doing I think. Quite frankly I've been dissuaded from the spektrum kit due to the amazing number of videos and posts on past problems, it looked great value at first, especially with the BNF efilte toys to play with.
JR and spektrum appear to have an unclear future, and spektrum probably don't have the resources they once did. Service is noted, and I've heard of some issues with futaba aftersales service. I'd rather not have to use it in the first place though!

The 8fg is the best current (reasonable) future proofing choice I think. up to 14ch(2 switched), and have some natty integration with the gy750 flybarless gyro set. Also the 'matching' receiver has a high speed mode for better response.

My caveat is I've not used one, and I'm just starting out (kinda again, did cars, boats, gliders up to about 15 years ago!). I have some residual brand loyaty from the futaba kit i used then, but not sure how much that applies anymore!

Yes I'm now a bit of a futaba 'fan-boy' but its the research I've done that has convinced me, and convinced me to wait and save, rather than get a FF7 or dx8. It is simply outstanding value. Its just a shame the receivers and other kit is a bit pricy. I hope that in the end I get what I pay for!

                            Hope that helps.

PS Ask your wife how you're supposed to control a RC heli with fish?!
