  • 450 pro - Rudder jammed over in IU

    Hi guys

Had the tarot 450 pro out last night and she was flying lovely after a recent lubing, so I decided to try her in IU for the first time. Got some decent height and flicked the switch. With this she gave quite a surge upwards, which I was ready for and lowered collective. But she then just started piro-ing out of control. Flicked her straight back into normal, but it made no difference the rudder was full over and not moving. Managed to get her back down (if a little heavy) with only a stripped front TT gear from the landing.

I have been through my TX to make sure there were no mixes activated by IU and everything seems normal. My only thought is that when she climbed HARD the rudder had to compensate so fast that it 'stuck' over. It was still still stuck hard over when she landed. Is this possible? Anything else that could cause this? Gyro is Assan GA250, servo is DS 520. TX Aruora 9

    Cheers for looking

Thanks mate. Checked through all that and I just found that when I flick to idle up, my gyro resets and goes into programming mode!?! Hmmm

why does it climb when you hit idle 1, it shouldn't do anything apart from the headspeed increase.

Like Ross said, the heli shouldnt do anything apart from increase head speed when you go into idle up. Make sure that your pitch curve is 0 at midstick & then equal travel for +/- pitch (you can adjust bottom end using travel adjust for learning) in both normal & idle up so that the heli doesnt jump. Equal travel on the pitch will make it easier for you to learn when your moving the heli about more

IU = Idle Up. Its a setting on one of the switches to give you constant throttle for flying sport & 3D. On nitro's its normally used with a governor to stop over/under revving & on electric it helps with efficiency of the motor

              Hope this helps

Its easier to write than Idle Up

Thanks for input guys. The jump was because I haven't quite got my curves matched up yet, this was the first time after all. I will follow the excellent advice above though, thanks!

On a more embarrassing note, I found the cause of the piro. I had checked all the settings on my TX... Apart from the gyro gains for the new IU, sorry, idle up flight condition. Yup, they were still set to flat zero's.... So when I flicked over it was somehow confusing the gyro into programming mode. I feel such an eejit for missing that one! Does that get me a Darwin Award?

Fixed now, and £6 for a set of front gears it was a very cheap lesson indeed. Now just can't wait for wind to drop here.

                    Cheers

                    Rob
