3s LiPo balance lead

Help needed,
The BLACK lead from battery to balance plug has broken inside the lipo pack.
Rather than open up the pack to resolder and risking damaging the insulation,
could I just extend the lead from balance plug and solder it to the BLACK power output
lead at the deans connecter?
My apologies to all those electrically minded people,if this is stupid question.
Not really posted before as I have usually found all the answers I need on this
excellent site.
To be honest computers frighten me as much as my 450.

Hi Tom,
I don't recommend soldering it to the Black power output, your charger will not be able to do a cell count without the balance lead being complete. I'd recommend carefuly slitting open the pack heat shrink along the line of the lead and solder the lead back together and cover with heat shrink tube and then tape the pack closed again.
It wouldn't happen to be a Flightpower pack by any chance would it? My bro and i have had problems with their balance leads breaking due to flexing near the pack heat shrink because they are poor quality steel wires. Basicaly cheap rubbish wires for such expensive packs.

the negative lead and the black ballance lead are conected at the same place (on my turnigy battery) you can always tape up the battery afterwards saves bodging things

thanks for reply. lipo is UNI extreme power series.11.1v 2200mah
Have now opened top of pack and it looks like the soldered joint of the black balance lead has failed.
this connection appears to be same terminal as the black(negative) power supply .
In that case will it be safer to solder to other end of black power supply lead AWAY from the other cells.?
My shaky old hands are not too clever, and I don't want to risk shorting out the lipo.

If you have shaky hands then you could approach the task a bit like a surgical operation in as much as covering the bits you don't need to see Use a liberal amount of masking tape to cover all the other wires and any exposed areas of the cells to prevent the iron accidentaly melting through cable sheathing or the plastic coating of the cell if your hand should wander so that the only visible bits left are the wire and the area it's to be soldered to. That should make it pretty safe to do even with shaky old hands
