hello everyone this seems a great forum im quite new too flying helis and just had some great flights this week with my trex 450 clone ... just wondered what you are using too start your ic helis as just burnt out a starter on my sceadu 50,,just like to know what i should buy as the starter was a cheap jp one that ive been using for about a year and a half on ic aircraft and a couple of times for firing up the sceadu..
should the starter last longer than this? or is it pay for what ya get? cheers

    Hello

    Firstly welcome to the madhouse.

For a starter I use a Dynatron with good quality hex one way shaft and a 4S Lipo pack strapped to it - lasts all day long.

Any half decent circa £30.00 starter with either a batt or lipo + a decent one way hex driver is all you need.

Any of the stores on here can help you out.
    Cheers

Welcome to the forum. It is very helpful. I can't comment on your starter, but with helis I would get what other people use. You often get what you pay for, but paying more is not a guarantee of quality. With any starter you have an electric motor which will burn out if you stall it for long enough. The bigger the engine the bigger the starter motor you need.

I did burned out one of mine years ago on a hydro locked 90 - oops lesson learned. There is only so much these motors can take before they will just cook.

Welcome to the forum. I have a Sceadu evo 50 and it is a very good heli, much under-rated. I like it alot.

Some people don't like the Align 'super starter' but so far mine has worked very well for about a year and a half, maybe a bit longer.

I don't know if the newer ones have remedied this but on mine and as was the case with many of the first ones, the hex wand was too soft and became worn very quickly but there is a replacement wand that cures that problem very easily (and as I say, hopefully the newer ones have a better wand to begin with). I got the Align starter mainly because it is very compact and I have to carry a minimum of weight when I go out flying. But if weight is not an issue the Dynatron is pretty much the last word in heli starters.
