  • Finally, no crashes

Bit of a red-letter day today. Managed to get through a whole pack, in one hit, without crashing, landing badly or hitting anything. It's a new experience to actually run out of power because of flying.

Thank you to rchelicopterfun.com, Phoenix flight sim and everyone who has helped and given me information on this forum.

Onward and upward (downward, sideways and maybe one day, upside down!),

    Martin
    Never happy, merely less depressed.

Yanagisawa Tenor Sax (doesn't fly well though)

Now having said that, today I have stuffed it into the ground big time; bent tail boom, feathering shaft, rotors and the bit that holds them on (I learn the names when I have to replace them), servo gears, main shaft and no doubt loads of other stuff. On the bright side, I flew my plane without problems so perhaps I should stick to planks.

Well done on your first successful whole pack m8 And bad luck on today's mishap

Don't let it put you off though, these things happen. Get the parts ordered and get it back in the air. Yeah planks are fun but getting a heli flying is just somehow way more satisfying

The silly thing is that I know why I'm crashing. I have the throttle and pitch settings such that it is easier to hover and everything is very gentle, unfortunately the settings are absolutely no good for forward flight. What happens is that if a slight wind comes up then we have the equivalent of forward flight and so the helicopter rises because of the steep pitch and transitional lift. The only way to get the heli down is to reduce the throttle (there is no negative pitch on my settings), the head speed drops and control is lost.

When I fix it this time I am going to use the factory settings and sod it, if I am going to crash it's not going to be because I was too timid next time!!

you need to adjust your throttle so you have constant headspeed then!

what are you pitch and throttle settings
