im usually flying VERY early in the mornings in 3 parks around canning town... (e16) near keir hardie estate, star park and near westham football fields... since london parks tend to be very busy, i go there before 8AM on my days off, and by 9am when dog walkers or football players start arriving, i pack up and leave... some people chase me away (lol), but most are really understanding, and come to chat or wait untill im finished to fly...

about wanstead flats... there is a mostly plane club, and to fly helis there, you have to be in the club for 2 years...

I've flown in Tooting common, it's huge and you can always find a quiet spot, I fly micro helis though.
We could meet some day to fly helis there.

Two options I know of but would require a train journey (or car). One is Hanworth park, which is way out west from you but it's a good size field, you can fly pretty much anything, there are some time restrictions on nitro or petrol and it's free.

Another option would be Epsom Downs, you have to join the club but it's only a tenner and you can fly 7 days a week except when there's an event going on. I used to fly there all the time when I was living in London as it's a walkable distance from Tattenham corner station. The only downside is that there is a club rule that you cannot fly alone, so you need to be able to bring someone else along or know that another club member will be flying.

Now I am down on the Kent coast but when I was living in S London I was out flying most weekends. With Epsom Downs there was a small group of mostly fixed-wing flyers that also flew on weekdays so I would also get over there during the week when the weather was good.

Here's a pic at Epsom Downs from (I think) late summer 2015, I have loads of pics but didn't want to spend ages searching :
