receiver ?

Hi i have just bought a futaba ff9,and i am about to install on my raptor 50 v2.In the raptor manual it says to tape on top of battery pic show just reciever,but in the futaba manual it says to first wrap in plastic bag then cover with foam,to stop moisture getting in and also to stop vibration is this nessecary or not.Another thing is installing the servos,the raptor manual says on all the servos the ball links are to be 10.5mm from centre of servo horn.The servo wheels on already arnt big anough so i was going to change for the ones with six points,but there are only three then they get real big have i just been given one short or am i suposed to use one of the bigger ones.I also got a jr servo for the tail.In the raptor manual it shows a round disk one for jr but i have only ones with four points is this wrong also or have i got to buy the wheel seperate.Thanks for all your help up to now,this is the last thing i have to do then at last im ready to fly.Thanks again.

RECEIVER MOUNTING

Hi Mark.

The important thing in mounting your receiver is to make sure you have a soft mounting platform,this will take out the vibrations from the frame. in regards to a cover,I personely do not bother, for unless you are going to make a habit of flying in the rain, I really do not think this is neccerssary.Going on to the required servo throw,as you are learning it is best to keep to the small arms, as you will not need a large throw at your stage in the game.I am sure you will get a more proffessional reply from "Stuart' or "Pete' later, but if my little contribution helps in some way I will be happy.

Hi Mark,

Mo is absolutely correct, you dont really need lots of throw to learn with, in fact too much can be just as bad as not enough as it makes the heli far more twitchy to the point of being difficult to handle.

For the receiver, my personal choice is a Quick UK receiver strong box mounted on the top of the radio tray with some strong double sided thin foam tape. The receiver is cocooned in the foam clad strong box which eliminates any vibrations and also protects the receiver in the event of a crash.

With regards to servo arms, most of my non quick uk metal arms are the futaba 4 pointed ones, you will find that the second or thrid hole out is about 12 or 13mm from the centre of the servo, which is fine.

The rod lengths as in the manual are on the whole pretty accurate, you might find it necessary to tweak things here and there a little to get it right with your servo and arm combination.

There are a couple of threads where I have helped with trim and the setting up of the throttle, they go through the process of setting up more or less all the controls. Have a look at them and if you have any more questions just shout

I too never bother about the moisture thing, never had one yet fail on me. If anything as Pete say's a strongbox will serve you better...

Also and its only my pinion, but I'd setup the heli mechanically for 3D, then us the Tx to give the begginer setup thus once your fully confident and ready to open up the controlls fully you don't need to mess around with re-positioning ball links etc.

You can control all the throw's max points via the Tx.
