  • Setting up a Tx

    Hi Guys,

Im fed up of relying on other people to setup my Tx up with my heli and do what ever they do, as much as i appreciate the help im never going to learn unless i do it myself.
Ideally im looking for a book, DVD or even website that really dumbs it down and explains what all the different "things" do and what they should be used for etc..
Could anyone recommend somthing that will help me do it myself and explain what all the different functions are designed to do?
Im using the Futaba 6EX, but im looking to upgrade to the 8FG or the 10C.

so if anyone can recommend something or give me any relevent advice, that would be great.

There is a book written for the 10C - Traplet Publications Ltd. Futaba 10C 2.4GHZ - The User?s Guide

Unfortunately the manuals supplied with all Futaba transmitters leave an awful lot to be desired. I have a Futaba TX myself and it is very much a case of playing with the parameters and see what effect it has. With the 8FG and 10C there is a servo screen so you can see what effect the changes have made.

          Will do

And thanks for the link, how different is the 10C to the 8FG, im assuming that the OS inside the Tx's are very simular seeing as its made by the same company, so would i get away with buying the 8FG and using the 10C manual to help me understand what all the different settings are used for and how to set them up?

The only thing that the manuals told me was how to access the different programs, but didnt really explain what their used for and how they effect the heli etc...

Thanks for the quick replys though guys!

Funny i've always thought the Futaba manuals are quite good,
Spose its down to how much you know in the first place.
I remember when I started, trying to read the manuals was like reading a different language, but once you know and understand the basics on how a heli flys and what the gyro does etc,,your on your way,
and do'nt forget to ask on here if your not sure about something.
Better to ask and check than have damage to yourself or a heli

As an example look at the manual for the T8FG. Goto the gyro menu screen under helicopters and after reading that page tell me how to assign the gyro to work from a switch and not a condition.

The radios are very different and the book I linked to will not help much. Out of the two the T8FG is the best bang for your buck radio in terms of what it can do. £235 from Inwood Models. I had a 10C and swapped it for the 8. The firmware can be upgraded and there is an update coming out soon. When Futaba release their FBL system I believe there will be another update for some of the controls.

The only thing that the manuals told me was how to access the different programs, but didnt really explain what their used for and how they effect the heli etc...
              I agree with you there.

                still think they're good, imo

i will probably go for the 8FG, and ill just mess around with it and learn for myself, hopefully ill find a couple of those videos that will help. at the end of the day i can always wipe the model memory and start again if i do mess it up too much

I always say the same. Ray's authoritative DVD series
(i think 'Ray' looks like Borat!lol) got my'n from Midland Heli
                      a long while back
though in a strainge chumney-warner/borat sort of way
old Ray just about covers the lot
you can get copys of his DVD's
                      you know where!!

Daft as it may sound for someone using Futaba radio, have a look at a manual for a JR DSX 9 or PCM9X11. It will explain in far greater detail what the various functions do, and why you might want to use them. Obviously it won't be any good as a direct reference for setting up your futaba but it might break a bit of the jargon down into something you'll have a better chance of understanding.
You could of course opt to go over to JR with your new transmitter choice, assuming you haven't bought too many recievers for your Futaba.
My brother has a 6EX that he was using before buying a DSX9 and between the two of us we managed to set up a Raptor 550e after losing a lot of hair with all the head scratching because the Futaba instructions were somewhat lacking to say the least. Futaba seem to assume that everyone has a fairly comprehensive understanding of their systems so give just the minimum of information and leave you to figure out the rest. Having been using my DSX9 for a while before helping my bro with his 6EX i was shocked at how basic and frankly useless and frustrating the Futaba instruction manual was........he's not using the 6EX any more
Although there is still some head scratching with JR, i'm not losing as much hair or swearing as much

If the link doesn'r work you can find the transmitter on page 5, having selected Futaba and then sets & transmitters.
