My 1st heli was a 450 and is a great bit of fun,you can tame them down with flybar weights, heavy paddles and dual rates and expo tamed down on the dx6i,
      good starter for a beginner

Yup i would go for a 450 as well, it's a bigger heli which means that it is more stable than the 250. A 450 can be quite twitchy too but it can be dulled down really well with expo

For learning 450 as the 250 is very skittish and the last thing you want to be doing when you learning is chasing a 250 all over the place as they are fast little buggers lol...

Depends if you are talking about what heli to learn on in Phoenix, or what heli to get as a beginner.
In Phoenix you are better off trying the larger helis to start with.
As for getting a 250 as a beginners machine, well, not a good idea. Their way too twitchy

A 450 would be a far better choice.

It's a common misconception that a small 250 size heli will be good to learn on but as everyone else has said because of there size they are very twitchy and unstable in the air.
As a basic principal, the bigger the heli the more stable they will fly
PS enjoy!! Phoenix is a god send in this hobby!

Large models, trex 600 or something, easier to see and not as twitchy

My first Heli is 450 size, it is great fun, and the maintenance is not to costly as well.
