  • prob building rapter 50 v2

hi i have just bought a rapter 50 v2 and think i may have a problem i was putting the main frame together when i was a bit heavy handed and may have done the threads in on a couple of the screws can i put the Kwik.Fix thread lock i have been using when told to in the instruction book on them or will this damage the plastic as it says it can damage some thermoplastics or is there something else i can use thanks very much

Never put anyform off locking compound on plastic. It tends to dissolve the plastic, and the screws won't hold anything for long.

As you've only stripped a couple threads, depending on where they are, you may be able to recover the frames. Personally i'd find a small bit plastic (ideally similar to the material the frames are made off) that will fit in the screw hole (just enough to fill about 1/4 to 1/2 the hole width), make sure you put plenty superglue in, and then put the screw in. (You have been putting super glue on all the screws into plastic haven't you?)

Obviously the repairability of the frames will depend on how badly the holes are stripped.

Hi moray thanks for the reply. No i havent put any super glue on the screws before putting them in.Would it be a good idea to take them all out again and put a load in the holes,do them up again leave for a couple of days. Will this hold when i fly with all the vibration?

      thanks mark :?

When you build the heli, you should put a drop of superglue (CA to some) on the end of any screws that go into plastic. This is to help prevent any screws coming slack.
I would recommend taking the screws back out and putting some superglue on them, although some people will argue that the plastic should act as a lock to stop the screws coming back out).
The superglue should set fairly quickly (within a few hours at the most), so by the time you get the frame assembled, and get the heli ready to fly, the glue should be well and truly set.
Provided the heli is well balanced, vibration should be minimal, and is more likely to cause more critical screws to slacken off, than the frame screws. This is why you should check all screws on the heli, on a regular basis.

Having just read pete's (aka raptorite) reply in the other thread, I would recommend that you renew the frame spacers.
I had forgotten that the frames are held together with the spacers, and was thinking the screws went directly into the frame.
I know it would mean splitting the frames again, but it would be a far better long term solution.

I put them in the first class post today (Tuesday) so you should get them tomorrow given any luck.

I hope the rest of the build goes well, let us know if you have any questions.

                Cheers,

                Pete.
