  • Beginner, thanking everybody

    Hi Everybody

Newbie to this hobby although I have flown fixed wing before, I have a Blade 400 yet to be flown and purchased a copy of Phoenix yesterday… On the sim I cant even keep it in a steady hover as once it starts swaying from side to side the sways get bigger and bigger until I get too far away to see what is happening. Is this the sort of thing that happens to most new pilots and after then after while things start falling in to place, lots more practice needed I think !!! So very different to flying my MCX2 and MSR indoors. It was reading comments on this forum that made me go out and buy the Phoenix sim, so thank you everybody, probably going to save me a fortune in the long run.

Yes, keep practising on the sim and you will stop over-controlling the beastie. Small inputs and concentrate real hard; this is not easy.

Agree with above tiny inputs from the start, you get it in the end.

        Yup, practice is the key.
        Couple of hints though.
Try some of the larger helis in Phoenix (They are far less skittish)
You might also try adding some expo, either via the model edit function in the sim, or directly from your tx. This softens down the controls around the centre point

I have the blade 400 and setup it up in pheonix to be the same as the settings in tx. Also you could try speeding up the sim. These things make flying in real life a little easier

As a newbie myself totally agree with comments, Phoenix one of my first purchases.
I played about with trims to get it more stable stopped me having to constantly correct.

                      Nice to have help

Thank you once again for all the useful information I’ll try a bigger model in Phoenix and also have a play around with the settings in Phoenix and TX. I’m so pleased I joined up to this forum and as I say it’s nice to have help along the way on this steep learning curve

welcome m8 - you've done a very good thing by starting with a good sim! It has probably already paid for itself in saved crash costs!

and yes...just about every beginner will start of struggling to just hover (I know as I get anyone I can that comes to my house to have a try....hehe!)

Who needs dumb thumbs when you have dumb fingers!

Mate,it will take longer than 24hrs...dont rush, its not a race

Slowly but surley was my approach, use the hover training facility, once you master tail in,tun the heli 45 degrees and hover like that, then back to tail in,then the other side 45deg....then round to 90(side on)...keep doing this till you nail it.once nailed, turn another 45 so its almost facing you,if in trouble, back to side on(which you had nailed)....one you get better then go nose in.This should take a while, its one of the hardest things you can do is to hover on the spot in all orientations(i spent approx 5 months doing it for real up the club)....it really does open the door to flying

Good luck and dont rush it

Its good to read all the posts and has made me realise that its not only me that struggles to hover in one spot on the Phoenix whilst learning, this hobby is certainly a challange and it is that that makes it so interesting... lots to learn but as you all say there is no rush and the more I practice hopefully the better I will become on the sticks and the easier things will fall in place

                            Thankyou all

Fly the big stuff on the sim,its easier, your flying will also look better which keeps you keen.....do you remember riding a bike for the first time?

Its like that, but as you know,it gets easier
