  • Is a 60 size Helicopter good for a beginner?

Firsty, hello everybody, I'm new I signed up yesterday and have been looking around quite a bit.

I used to own, and still do own a Eco Ikarus Helicopter. I have owned it for years. Most of which it has sat in a black plastic bag after its last crash. Anyway, after years of stagnation I am seriously thinking about getting back into flying, this time with proper training. I intend to do many hours on the simulator before spending any money but I am very tempted to get a 60 size Helicopter. I was thinking of a Raptor.

I have read these are very good and very popular. I was going for this size because of the added stability due to its size and plus, once I am a capable pilot I want to put a bodyshell on it. I think I'll be more into scale stuff than doing 3D. For now anyway...

I am sorry if this is a stupid or repeated question, be gentle with me.

    Thank you

    Hi Tony
I think for scale flying the raptor 60 is superb yes very stable and all round a nice heli. I have owned half a dozen of them in my time and like them a lot. I think you'd be best powering it with an os 70 szh as the tt 70 is pants and the os although pretty good needs more power,
    Regards Steve

Hiya, thank you for the reply. I can see from your name that you are a Raptor fan lol. Just quickly can you tell me what you like about them so much over another type of Heli?

Also if I do get a scale kit for it, does it matter which make of Heli I buy for best fit etc?

      Thank you

I don't mind a smaller picture and strapline within the signature but not so in your face ....various members have links to sites and stores within thier signatures but not as big as Tony's.

Even the likes of BOBJ is more than welcome to link to Skyline as he's been contributing to the site and helping members out. Its those that jump in with no contribution and fail to support thier products that will be stopped.
          Cheers

i think the consencis of opinion on the forum is the bigger they are the more stable they are. most guys recomend the 50 size heli's so i would think a 60 should be a good choice with plenty of power and no need to keep upgrading.if you look for scale fuse's many use 60 size heli's

take a look at the costs of running a 60-70 size machine compared to a .50 before you buy the gear. all the "consumables" like blades are quite a bit more dosh.
with the raptor the 50 is a stretched 30 which makes the parts cheap as they are shared with the 30 (ie TT are making thousands of them, and there are aftermarket cheaper bits too).
My 50 hacks the wind no bother.
