  • Hi all

hi i am new here and new to flying helis.
i am thinking about getting the honeybee v2 as soon as i can find 1 in stock in the uk.
lets hope they get some in soon

You'll get a hundred different responses but I don't think the Honey Bee is considered a good heli by any stretch.

Have you got a budget in mind and what are your longer term expectations of teh hobby?

A Blade 120 SR might be a better starting point, or a Blade CX2/3. And of course you'll be recommended to get a simulator too. Most on here use Phoenix (about £85) and a decentish transmitter (DX6i upwards).

                Oh dear.

                Please don't do it

Honeybee = Might as well throw your money down the drain.

Blade 120SR = Well worth the extra.

                Blade 120SR bnf + Dx6i transmitter =

                PS. Welcome to the forum.

I think you'll struggle on that budget. A 120 SR will only just about manage outdoors, and then only on the calmest of days.

Kungpo is right I'm afraid. If you want to fly outside in anything other than very calm conditions, then you need to be looking at a Blade 400 at the very least.

                      Hi mate,

My first heli was a Honeybee King 2, I bought it, upgarded it almost immediately, flew it a few times, sold it a few weeks later. It is possible to fly it indoors if you have some space, but take it outside and you will really struggle if there is even a suggestion of a breeze! It didn't impress me very much.

A 450 is probably a much better bet, however, your budget makes this a bit difficult tbh especially if you need to get a transmitter as well but there is a reasonable chance that you could find a clone 450 ready to fly maybe with a transmitter if you look hard enough. Just make sure its coming from somewhere that is reputable (keep an eye on the for sale thread on this forum - good bunch of guys here and we try and look after each other if we can) and if you see something that takes your fancy, you could always ask for some advice on this forum before you buy!

As you are new into this brilliant hobby, I'd be a bit hesitant about starting off with something that may give you the wrong impression, especially if money is a bit tight. Many of the guys (and girls) on here use a simulator because it really helps with practice and obviously keeps repair costs down. Helis are difficult beasts to tame, but the rewards for progress are huge imho .

If you are like me and just want to get out and fly something - maybe it might be better to try a smaller indoor heli like an Blade MSR or perhaps the new Align 100 which would give you a feel for where you would like to go. I had an MSR and it was a brilliant little thing to use indoors and it helped me a lot with orientation and flying "nose in" and it binds with a spectrum transmitter out of the box - oh and it is very resiliant to crashing - ask me how I know - lol.

Alternatively, as suggested, you might want to go for the Phoenix simulator and get hold of something like a spectrum dx6i from ebay which would work very well for you later for the real thing. At the very least this will give you a good feel for things first and will be well worth it in the longer term.

                      Good luck bud.

                      Cheers,
                      Simon
