Just bought an R/C Helo and handset for 50!

ive just bought a helo and handset for 50 from a bloke in my local pub. he says he dabbled in the sport a couple of years ago and managed to crash 3 of them. After that he bought a fourth one, but for the last 18 months has remained unused in his spare bedroom. i looked at the idea of flying these machines a while ago but was turned off by the price (being a full time student) and couldnt resist the offer of trying a nearly brand new machine for a bargin price. not sure of the spec yet but would appreciate any thoughts on what i should do 2mrw when i pick it up, considering that ive never done anything like this before. Also i will keep posting my progress should any1 want to start taking bets as to when i will crash my latest gadget. Would like to exchange e-mails with anyone that thinks they could help, i live just outside Portsmouth if that interests any1.

can you upload some pics of it into your gallery, also do you know the make of it. well try to help as much as we can but with some many micro heli's arround these days its getting harder to keep track of whats what !!

Picked up my new Helo!

I am now the proud owner of an:

Ergo .46 Helicopter
Futaba T6x transmitter
Box full of spares and pieces

Not bad for 50 im thinking so far. Had to go down to the helicopter shop and pick up a new 12v starting battery and charger though which i hadnt counted on. its on charge now ready for its first flight this weekend - and possibly its last depending on how things go.

Hi Jim,

Congratulations on the purchase of your first model heli and welcome to the hobby.

I would suggest that before you attempt to fly it yourself, you have it looked over by an experienced pilot, to make sure it is all ok and setup properly.

I would also suggest you join a local flying club where other members will be able to help you with your first steps into this challenging yet very rewarding hobby.

If you look on the BMFA (British Model Flying Association) web site which can be found at; www.bmfa.org you can then find your local club by clicking on, clubs, find a club.

You will also need to buy some insurance, which you can get through the BMFA direct, or through your local club, they will be able to help you with this. The cost of the insurance is 23 per year.

We can give you all the advice you need on here but it is much easier to have someone with you in person to guide you through the basics of operation and more importantly safety of the model and yourself.
