  • Multiplex Funcopter

I'd like to get a funcopter RR as a survivable heli that is fairly boring but does the basics. Does it work ok as a learning machine on a Tipple 3S 2250 battery on the standard blade grips (5 degree I think) or does it need high spec 3S or 4S batteries and different blade grips.

    Hi Chris

If you want to learn to fly heli's then go out and buy the best heli you can afford, I say this because I know of two fellow flyers that have bought the funcopter and had problems setting them up, one member noticed little cuts on the boom after some time he found out this was because the main blades flex that much they will strike the boom.

If you want my advice go with a trex 450 or a 500, I know any of these will cost more than the funcopter but you will be flying a proper heli, and if you don't get on with helis you are going to be able sell any one of these on and not be that much out of pocket, plus you can find out all the information you are going to need with regards to set up and so on on this site.

I'd better fit the servos on my HK450 then. I've reached the stage of being a ble to hover as long as I want but I'm now getting bits wearing out and it can take a while to find out which bit is the problem. The latest problem is lack of tail control on takeoff which broke a lot of bits.

Ok I am a little past the beginner stage ,but I had to set up a funcopter and,......

        EEEEEEEEEK

I really struggled to fly it

may I suggest a 500 size and a flight sim its the winter after all and we live in a windy cold country

also the best advice I can give,..........

Go to your local club before you buy anything

          Fun Copter

Thanks for the reply, Rachel. People on here don't seem to like the funcopter. I've got a sim called Phoenix that I use a lot and I can fly a 450 up to about the lazy 8 BMFA A standard although I can't fly a lazy 8 at walking pace or make the heli point exactly in the direction of travel. I can fly my msr tail out, but haven't managed that on the 450, although it's easy on the sim. I'm just not careful enough with all the checks that you have to do and it seems as soon as I've fixed one thing another one goes, and with a 450 it usually means breaking even more bits. I don't need an easy to fly or 3D heli, just one that will survive a minor crash. Hopefully a new heli like the HK450 will be more reliable. My version is the £40 one with all metal bits. I agree that a 500 would be better. PLease send donations to ChrisJohnAid.

Its true love mine A LOT.
Their a brilliant beginners cp heli and although I've moved on a little with the T Rex. I still really enjoy flying mine. Its just so easy to get on with. AND as a result has cost me next to nothing in repair bills. Unlike the T Rex

Looks dam good in its new Fuselage as well

I have a Funcopter as well as a Trex 450 and an Align 600 electric. As a near beginner, just starting circuits, figure 8's and nose in I have to say that I prefer practicing with the Funcopter as it takes far more damage, is cheaper repair and is harder, yes harder to fly. I would recommend it as a basic practice heli even with problems outlined below.
However it does have problems, yes you do get rotor slap on the boom but worse still is the tail rotor gears which regularly strip even without touching the blades on the deck. I am told there is a mod to convert to belt drive, does anybody know how to do it and what parts are used?
