  • T-rex 450se V2 Rudder Trim Problem

    Hiya all
This is my first post on here so i will tell you all what ive got then tell you all my problem

As you may have guessed i have a t-rex 450se v2, the blades are stock 325 pro align, the motor is a stock align 430xl outrunner, the ESC is the align rce-bl35x 35a and im not sure what the servos are, im upgrading them soon. The controllor is a Futaba T6EXHP 6 channel.

The problem im having is with the rudder trim, no matter what i do i always have to make small corrections to the tail as im hovering.
The smallist trim i can do is 1%, and the pot on the gyro is at most +.
Is there a way of getting the tail to stay put? its only small corrections needed as im flying, is this normal? it will creep to the left or right depending on if the trim is set to 31% or 32%.... It will creep about 45 degrees in about a 40 secs hover if i dont make corrections.

    Many Many Thanks all james...

You did not mention which Gyro you have installed, that will help as it may not be Heading hold ver

sry the gyro is a telebee head lock & standard dual rate

So is it normal to make that amount of corrections to the tail while im in hover?

      many thanks james

Ok I have not got that gyro, but if you set up the tail out of HH mode mechanically so its not drifting. Then when you select HH mode it should hold steadier than it is now.

Hope you knew what I ment about setting up mechanically, make sure you have 0 trim on your TX and the servo arm centered and adjust the rudder link from servo to tail untill it holds steady then turn on HH. Its best to have no trim on TX for it to hold steady.

I think i know what you mean, do you mean have the rudder blades set with no pitch at all? and no rudder trim used on the controllor, then trim it using the servo to tail gear bar so it holds the tail in a hover, then turn the hh on?

              many thanks james

                Yep!
only you will have to start with some pitch on the tail blades to hold the tail.

Hiya i did what you said and it seems like the gyro is doing something now

but the tail seems to be moving side to side now.....would that mean the gyro gain needs to be turned up or down....?

                  mant many thanks james

ohhh yes if i think i need a little trim to the rudder, do i turn the hh off then do the trim and then turn the hh back on again...?

                    update....

It seemed much easyer to fly without the hh on....
im now on -19% trim on the rudder with the hh on... going to try and get that down to 0% , but its not that easy to do

anyways will keep you up to date on how it go's...

                    many thanks james

You should be able to get it stable with no trim, remember you can move the whole servo up and down the boom if the tail rod wont adjust enough.

If you can get it really stable with HH off then when you turn it on it should be rock solid.
The side to side movement is called wag, you can stop that by adjusting the gain on the gyro/TX.
Do a search on here for Gyro heading hold its all on here somewhere.

Don't use trim as it will upset the HH, get it mechanically centered out of head and hold. With the GY401 you need to power up in HH so it sets it self up then you can flick out of HH into normal mode and adjust.

I think you mentioned the magic word Nutz.
Notscratcher, what you need to do is bin the Telebee, and fit a GY401.
