  • Wiring conventions

    I am just about to bust out the solder and put little gold male/female connectors on all my wires,... when [the massive software geek that I am] I wondered if there was a paticular convention to follow.

    Do most people make the battery a female connector?

    cheers

    Well I always use the female on the battery. Reason being you don't want to short your teminals. So a female makes that much harder to do.

      Live wires should always be female, most seem to use deans connectors, I use 4mm bananas - both female on pack, though some use female on the red and male on the black.
      Clones are bad

      .... that includes Align ones

        Females always make things harder to do - it's their job... [ducks]

          I would styrongly recommend these -> http://ashtekelectronics.com/shop/go...ed-p29862.html

          They are an attached pair, where one is male, the other is femail, and they are joined by a single protective case which completely encloses both terminals.

          What this means is that (a) the two terminals can never touch each other - good for lipo batteries, and (b) you can't connect them the wrong way around as whatever the're connecting to will have a matched pair of male and female.

            Ashtek also sell deans compatable which is what I have used. you can often buy the battery with the deans female already on.

              I use Deans due to their high amp handling and low resistance properties.
              They are an expensive connector, but as with everything, you pay for what you get.
              The only downside to them that I can think of is that they can be a bugger to fit together sometimes... but you just know they're not coming apart on their own!

              As has been stated - female on the live side...

                If you think Dean's are a bugger to get apart you want to try these, as fitted to the new Revolution 6S packs But, as you say at least you know they aint comin' apart
