    hi.

my name is simon im from abergavenny in south wales.

i have just bought a load of rc helli stuff from a friend as i plan to get back into flying them again and working on them.

ithe main reason for this is that i am recovering from a stroke i suffered on new years eve and i now need something to occupy me again as a means of therapy.

i used to fly helis many years ago however im now going to have to learn all over again, but this is what i am looking forward to.

so im after as much help and advice as i can get from those with the most time who can spare here.

    i have the following helis.
a modified t-rex, im not sure of the model type
and a hirobo shuttle with a spare frame and boom assembly, the one heli has a damaged boom so the donor will be used for spares and i will also get more new components over the next few weeks.

the controller i have with this is a futaba fp-t8up 8channel controller, i also got the latest realflight with it but the guy has lost all the cables for the futaba to the pc via usb, so i need to replace these if possible.

i intend to do quite a bit of re-learning on the simulator before i even fire up the helis after working on them, then i will find my nearest club and get them to check them over and do some training with them also.

i was quite lucky with this purchase as i got the whole lot for £250 all in with many spare parts for repairs etc.

so any info you guys can give me etc im looking forward to hearing from you all.

    simon

here are the pictures of everything i bought

Hi Simon, and welcome back to the hobby mate. Looks like you got a pretty good deal. The Transmitter and Futaba GY401 gyro on the t-rex would bring you over half your money back if you were to sell them on second hand. Id get the shuttle fixed up and running, get someone to check it over and go fly it before you even think about trying the t-rex. They behave alot diffrent from one another and the t-rex will seem very twitchy. Have you got starting gear for the shuttle as i couldnt see any in the pictures?

the gyro is the 240 , a prize for that man!!

well this afternoon i got busy and stareted to replace parts.

this is the cross head bar as you can see its bent so i took the one from the donor shell and fitted that.

the head like new now and the boom arm replaced also with the new drive belt fitted

also refitted the replacement rear rotor assembly

all in all not too bad a day for me.

on the t-rex i need to know a few things..

what is this? its attatched to the bottom of the trex the battery plugs into it.

on the rear rotor assembly there is a control link thats just hanging, i can see where a part is broken on the plastic assembly, where can i buy the replacement parts from please?

many thanks for all the help so far.

                        Hi simon

Welcome back into the hobby. Nice work so far!

The above is an Electronic Speed Controller (ESC), and its your electric motors 'carburettor'. It controls the power sent to the motor and probably also provides power to the receiver via the servo lead that should be plugged into the Throttle channel, by the way. I cannot determine the make, but being a Trex its likely that its also got a built-in governor, so that might help you keep a constant head speed.

                        Regards

This looks like the tail assembly from the Trex 450XL HDE. It looks like you're missing the lever arm, as something has snapped off in your picture above. Did you get a manual for the helicopter? You probably know how important that is for identifying replacement parts for your heli.

Midlands helicopters (www.modelhelicopters.co.uk) is probably the biggest online RC heli store and stock spares for your Trex. Unfortunatley, it looks like the part you have is discontinued but Midlands seems to have some stock left. Check out http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/ac...Sprs_Trex.html

This picture above is from Midlands web site and is part HS1020-1, which includes a lever on the right of the picture above. I think thats what you've taken a picture of. The recommended replacement part, HS1077, does not seem to show the missing lever:

Perhaps someone here can enlighten us as to if the lever is included? Otherwise, give Midlands a call - their number is on their web site.

                          Hope that helps.

                          Regards

                            thanks phili.

i have just found that part on silent heli website.
HS1020-1 Tail case assembly for just £5.64 and theres a load of other useful parts to gt in now also as spares so im going to do some shopping there this week!

the main thing i need to get now is replacement leads to go from my tx to the pc so i can use it with realflight g3, i dont want to have to buy another complete package just for a set of leads.
