  • I’m considering giving up flying my t-rex

    Hi all

I’m considering giving up flying my t-rex not because of the helicopter but because I uncontrollably shake. This has been the case ever since I flew it into myself last year.
Hovering is fine but as soon as I start to do a few stall turns or circuits I shake to the point where I can’t FLY ! I crashed it today because of this and I just don’t know what to do.
I think my confidence has been shattered.
Has anyone else been down this road and what did you do about it.

    Hi

I know what your going through.

I was flying circuits and setting up Heli's 6 years ago but gave it up due to children.

I've picked up the sticks as of November last year but find flying again is a real adrenaline rush that can manifest into the shakes especially when flying the Trex.

The Shuttle does not give me such a problem, partly I guess because it is so much more stable and partly because the Trex is not easy to fly.

I would try a bigger model maybe.

    Cheers

Now I don't agree with drink/drunk flying, but as the saying goes "a stiff drink to calm the nerves", it has worked for me in the past.

Have a beer then have a hover and see how you feel, take it one step at a time and don't rush things.

Or for the smokers out there, have a joint then sit and look at the heli for hours on end.

Well I would try stopping after just one stall turn or after a part circuit. This way you will still be Ok when you land. After a few mins take it up again and just do the same. If all is well, next time just two stall turns or one full circuit but then land before you go too far. this way you can build up without the worry of what will happen.

        Just my thoughts, Martin
Fly today, tomorrow it may be too late !!

          you could

fly it from inside the car or wear bike leathers and a helmet , see if that helps.

Mate.... its a toy to play with... if it crashes it crashes as long as your flying in a safe place, what you bothered about? there's nothing to be scared of i still a get a good rush when i'm really pushing it but not through fear.... if ya smash it... fix it simple as.
If its a case of money so what.. if i went out and wrote off my rappy90 i couldn't afford to fix for quite some time.. but still doesn't bother in the slightest....shit happens!... mind you people do say i'm mental
            cheers Lee

If it ain't broke fix it until it is
yes i'm an idiot and no i couldn't care any less

I say stick with it fella.Do wots comfy and take your time. If you crash your car, your legs shake for a bit, but you cant really give that up. It just takes time to get your confidence back. Were you injured when you crashed your heli?

i suffer this a little when flying in front of large crowds. The best thing you can do is find where you start shaking and fly to just to the point where you start shaking and fly in that zone for 10secs then come back and hover. settle back down again then go and do another 10secs.

the trick is to not push too far beyond the point you start shaking where it becomes so bad you crash.

personally im gonna try to do lots of flying infront of people I dont know and as large crowds as possible!

i suffered from that badly when flying in front of people at a club i visited. i calmed myself by doing a few light easy circuits before landing, giving it a break for half hour, then going at it again. was fin after that

I know quite a few professional classical musicians through my work, who actually take Beta-Blockers to stop their shaking to allow them to play properly!

Personally I think thats taking things a little far, but.....

I've just seen this and have to say I'm exactly the same - I can hover my Eolo very successfully and can take it anywere if I am directly behind it or at the worst at 45 degrees to it - I walk around confidently with it in front of me and really enjoy it. BUT both times I 've tried getting out of that comfort zone my nerves and huge adrenaline rushes have caused me to dumb thumb it into the ground and whilst yes its only a toy the repairs can be very pricey!
I can do most things with a simulator - circuits - landings - all sorts ... but what's patently missing on the simulator is those nerves and the heart pumping adrenaline
I've tried to go into just a basic lazy eight and its just so heart stoppingly hard
I shall keep trying .... but I understand everything you say

Does that mean that if you still shake you have another, and keep going until you stop shaking. Better get those shot's lined up.

Don't give up, shaking is a good thing it just means you have a healthy fear of crashing. I still can't relax when I fly and usualy end up with my knee's lock solid by the end of a tank full and have to walk back to the car John Wayne style.
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

                          And a DX8 too

when im pushing the limits of my mind, my leg's and feet hurt as im so planted to the ground. take things in baby steps again just like you would have done the first time you tried stall turns ect.

I have seen a few customers with the same problem, they all say that after a few hours flight training with me on the buddy box they get their confidence back fairly quickly.

I notice you are in Exeter, so not a million miles from Bristol, so you could come and try the same thing.
