  • Batteries

I am a beginner and in January bought a Twister V2 helicopter and have distroyed a couple of the batteries as I have over charged them i.e. leaving them on and forgetting about them (try looking after a 4 year old at the same time). My question is this, is there a better alternative i.e. Li-ions, that I could buy if so from where and would I have to make an modification to the Helicopter.
    Thanks.

With any battery you should be keeping an eye in them, no such thing as charge and forget when it comes down to batteries. If you buy a decent charger it will automatically stop charging when the batteries are full.

I have one charger which does Ni-Cd, Ni-Mh, Li-Po, Li-Io and PB (sealed Lead Acid). different batteries need to be charged differently to prevent them from being damaged, a damage pack can be dangerous!

    What batteries do you use?

You can by Li-po battery packs for the Twister but you will need the correct charger to charge them on.

      Thanks for the response,
The batteries are 8.4v 650Mah NiMH and the charger is just what came with the heli, the other thing is that I only get about 10 mins and would like more flight time.

10 Minutes is roughly right for a small electric, I get 6 min out of Trex 450 doing some 3D and fast flying.

It you move over to Li-po's I would do some research first as they can be dangerous if you do not know how to handle them. Things like charging them too fast, over discharging, only using 80% of the battery's capacity, C (current) rating. all of these need to observed on all types of batteries but even more importantly on Li-Pos!

If you have a LHS, I would talk to them about it, if not you need to find out what other people who fly these Twisters use as I don't know what would fit and what does not.

Is it the Twister CP v2 or just the Twister v2 (presumably fixed pitch).
              My CPv2 came with 2x 11.1V 1000mAh LiPos.

Have a look here for spares http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/ac...s_Twister.html

As yours is a 8.4v NiMh you want the third pack down.

I didn't think you could overcharge Nickel Metal Hydride batteries ? At least, not as easily as LiPo ones. Most mobile phones use NiMh and they can be left on charge permanently.

              Daniel.
Just how many hours stick-twiddling do you have to put in before you can justify buying the Breitling ?

I was under the impression that most mobile phone batteries are li-ion. That's why when the voltage drops below the specified level, they never come back on again.

                Also you could email service@jpmodels.co.uk

They will help you as they import the twister.

I would suggest, rather than going li-po at the moment, if you get charging a li-po wrong, then you get a large explosion/fire etc. I would see about getting a delta peek charger for your NIMH's. These detect the voltage as they charge and shut down to trickle when done. If you buy li-po battery's you will have to buy a charger as well!! My dad's twister fly's realy well for about 10mins on the 650 nimh packs and I can see no reason to change.
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

                  And a DX8 too

I would always recommend Lipos. You can pick up a reasonable balance charger for around £25. I have flown the Twister V2 on both NiMh and Lipo and there is no comparison. On the NIMh it is sluggish and obviously alot heavier. I have only had 1 incident with a lipo battery and that was due to my own carelessness. I charge my batteries in a clay flower pot now (just in case)

This is the V2 not the CP version can you tell me how long the battery life is and where can I buy the balance charger and batteries I am new to all this.
                      Thanks.

I would go for the 7.4v 10c lipo. 1200mah should give you around 15-18mins. If you go for say a 1800mah you will get more.

Are these 7.4v 10c lipo batteries compatible with the Twister?
Sorry about all the questions but I no nothing.
                          Regards.
