  • Please help me with my heli.

Hi all, just registered here, been reading for a while and seems a cool place.

I have a Concept 30, and it has not been used for a couple of years, but i took it out the cupboard and give it a good clean yesterday. I tried charging the batteries but i think they could be dead.

What i am after is advice on what i should do to get it all up and running again, i have all the equipment (as far as i know).

I know im going to need new fuel, but what else will i need ? (New batteries for the servos ?)

Also, the carb has been fiddled with and will need tuning to run properly, does anyone have any advise one how to do so ? Should i take it to my local and pay them to get it running again. I would prefer to do it myself as i enjoy all that and i would learn.

Thanks allot for any help received, cannot wait to get airborne again

First of all we'll need specs on your gear before anyone can help you. Engine type and size/servo models etc??? Getting a new RX battery pack is a start. Look for one about 2100mah or more. Dont get sub c cells as they will be too heavy for the model and will alter the C 0f G. Set your needles to the factory default (will be in the instruction book or if ya dont have one try finding a pdf manual on the manufacturers website). I definately recommend you get someone that knows what they are doing to look it over/sort it out before you even think about flying it. Get someone else maybe down your local club to fly it before you do.

Thanks for your help, i now realise ill have to look into it even further.

I went to the local store and the salesmen didnt seen bothered to help as its an ancient model.

Im new to rc helicopters, and this is my dads heli which he said i can use to learn (not sure if its a good idea or not ?).

I have had a read up on the forums and people seem to try electric heli's as beginners. Now seeing this, i did a search and found this little package for sale:

      ESky Belt-CP - £219.95
      Specifications:

      • Main blade diameter: 680mm
      • Tail blade diameter: 130mm
      • Length: 650mm
      • Height: 230mm
      • Weight(Including Power System):Approx 670g
      • Motor: 450 brushless motor
      • 10 tooth pinion
      • Rotate ratio:12:140/110:22
      • 25A brushless speed controller
      • ESKY professional gyro
      • Servo: 8g
      • Tail rotor drive: belt system

Does this sound like a better idea? I took a look at the vid they have and it looked pretty decent to me.

      Thanks again,
      Ryan
P.s. Heres is the Concept 30:

is this correct?, i remember reading that it was best to get sub c cells as they are more realiable in flight?

i wouldnt use anything less than sub C in 30size or bigger heli. anything smaller just wont hold its voltage under load.

KTM, where are you? you should really get to the local heli club and of course get yourself phoenix sim.

            Fantastic

Love the model, i had concepts for years and really enjoyed them. Fly it !!
all i would do is fit a new glow plug and get a new reciever battery ( a small one thats around 2000Mah will be fine).

Well i was told on here that they would be too big for a 30 size model and would shift the CofG too much. Ill have to find the post and point yaz too it.

i would rather have something that you know is gonna handle it and any future improvements like better servos.

must admit i got sub c packs on all my models but somebody definately told me that on a 30 size model at least then theres no need for packs that are too heavy and to not use sub c.

If you have that heli then fly it.
don't bother with the small electric for now.
Get some training gear, or make some (ping pong balls on sticks to make the undercart big and wide to its less likely to tip over).

Its worth looking through the internet to see what the spares availability for this is like. Others here can probably tell you.

Regarding stores, its best to talk to a heli specialist shop like skyline etc. you will find them all mentioned here. They'll know about spares avaiability etc.

Heres a rx battery pack that will do you (its sub c which some seem to tink is too heavy):
                      http://www.vapextech.co.uk/acatalog/...Batteries.html

They will do one for the tx as well.

                        Thanks for the replies.

                        Got a couple of questions:
-Does anyone know how i can find the helicopters full model number ? (concept 30 rx or whatever)
-Is that battery above definately the one i need to buy? (to run servos etc)
-Will this battery pack work on my transmitter? BATTERY PACK
-For the starter motor i need a new 12v battery pack, can i buy a motorbike 12v battery ?
-Does 'rx' mean receiver (the heli end) and 'tx' mean transmitter (the radio)?

Thanks allot, when im all up and running ill post some pics

Thats the battery I have in my Futaba 7CAP tx.
If the pack in yours is a 8 xAA cell pack with a plug just like the servo into rx plug on it (but with only 2 wires) then that's what you want.

I think thats an old ff8 you have? That'll do the job. No ccpm and 3 point pitch and throttle curves I think. My father in law has one.

Depending on the pits set up at your flying field you can run the starter with croc clips off you car battery. alternatively you want a 12v gell cell (that wont spill acid if it falls over) or you can put a 12v battery in a flight box of some sort so it stays upright.

It is also possible to start a heli with a good battery drill - just put the hex start shaft in that.

'Opposite of that you can have a nose heavy situation due to use large sub-c batteries on a R30/50. For this size helicopter the 'A' size packs work best.'

knew i read somewhere about using the a size battery packs because of weight shifting the CofG. http://www.raptortechnique.com/cg.htm
