  • Twister CP - couple of things

Evening all, its my first post so be generous!!

Last year I bought RealFlight sim and have been practicing on it ever since. At Christmas I took the plunge and went for an electric heli - the twister CP V2.

Ive read a few things on this site about it being unstable etc. Heres my observations.

It does seem quite unstable, I can pretty much hover it ok, but the slightest gust of wind and it seems most unpredicatble.

And a question - if i'm hovering and turn the tail it drops in height (by quite a bit). Is this normal? Or is there something wrong with gyro for example?

Forgive me if i'm way off the mark but fairly new to "real" flying!

    Comments appreciated.

I'll start off the replies, but I'm pretty inexperienced myself so I'd hang fire for some other comments before getting too carried away. Anyway, here goes.....

You say that the tail drops when you turn in a hover - no this is not "normal" (maybe Twisters are prone to this, but this doesn't happen on anything I have flown). If you are in forward flight and then try and turn that is different, a head holding gyro will cause the tail to drop and you need to add a little rudder in the direction you are turning. That said, from your description this is not what you are doing so I'm going back to my "it's not normal" answer! I don't think it's a gyro problem, could it be that you are losing head speed when you load up the tail and the C of G means the tail drops first? I'm not sure what the cure would be though..... Weak battery? Can you adjust the throttle curve on your TX ??

Like I said earlier, I'm a relative newbie so I'd wait for a reply from some experienced guys because I could be way off here !!!

i would a weak battery is a very likely cause

A few of things to consider:

1 You may inadvertantly be slightly pushing the stick down on the throttle when you push the tail.

2 Do you lose height when you move the tail to the left? Assuming the blades are rotating clockwise then when you push the stick left you will take power from the motor and the Twister CP doesn't maintain a good headspeed. Therefore you will need to be working the collective as you fly.

3 There are two pots on the 4 in 1 unit. One is gyro gain (right) and one contols the tail speed (I think). You could try adjusting this pot and see what affect it has.

4 Bear in mind that the Twister is not the easiest heli to fly and you should expect unpredicabilty in the bucketload.

This could be it, so really when flying i need to give a bit more collective when turning tail.

Thats also worth a try, as the tail does not start spinning until I've given it quite a lot of throttle

Its definitely not the easiest to fly. I have had much more success with my simulator!

          Shall keep going anyway.

"This could be it, so really when flying i need to give a bit more collective when turning tail."

Think of it that you are constantly flying the heli with ALL controls ALL of the time. The twister just needs a lot more input than many better helis.

Better helis also have much more control over the headspeed than a Twister, so rudder inputs would have less impact on altitude.

excuse his enthusiasm richie has only recently discovered the joys of 50 size compared to micro.

however.. hes right.. micros do suck

Hello jimok78 - where are you from in South Wales? I am from Cardiff!

You picked a hard heli to learn on and one that doesnt really perform all that good compared to others of its size. Stick with it tho and you will get there in the end.

Actually I was refering more to my TREX 450 which is much easier to fly. Which is a micro isn't it? Get yer facts straight Ade .

                  Anyway good luck jimok78.

Thanks all for your comments. Butuz, I live in Bridgend.

I thought i'd done a reasonable amount of homework prior to buying the twister, but from what most people seem to say it wasnt the best purchase!

Maybe I should think about the non electric non mini option...
