DX7 final question before I buy

OK, I'm about to place my order. Before I do just a few quick question.

1) Why the DX7 and not the DX6 - are the benefits for a beginner worth the extra £120?

2) Will it plug straight into the Phoenix simulator?

3) They seem to come in two favours: mode 1/3 or mode 2/4. Which do I want?

i can answer question 2 the answer is yes

1) DX7 gives you 7 channels - allowing for remote gain on governors, for example. A very useful feature.

2) Yes

3) Mode 2
Throttle/Pitch and Rudder on Left stick
Elevator and Aileron on right stick

Just to add, the DX6 is sold as a 'Park Flyer' radio with a more limited range, the DX7 is sold as a full range radio, as well as having better software for heli flying.

If you are about to order it online you may want to give them a quick call to see if they have them in stock. I tried ordering one from Inwoods a few weeks back (they were the best value for money I could find) but they were out of stock and not expecting any more until mid-March.

If you find them instock somewhere you may want to let us all know as I know there were quite a few peps looking for them!

They are hard to get. There's one in Al's Hobbies in Finchley (for £242) but I'm not going to be able to get down there any time soon. So someone else might want to grab it.

Well that's me done. Called just about every shop I could find and none of them (apart from Finchley) have a DX7. Seems like a two week wait at least.

Have you tried SMC down in Worthing - Smoothound mentioned they had some in stock at the beginning of the week.

I would suggest Ebay as there have been a few on there but I have just looked and no such luck

I got mine on there from ModelManiacs and can recommend them for very quick service.

So DX7 arrived on friday Sim hasn't arrived yet though

The DX7 didn't come with a charger and can't see them on sale anywhere. Is this because the connection and power is fairly standard and other brands will work? Also, where's the best place to get hold of a rx battery and charger. There is no info in the manual about the power of battery required so will this be a standard one too?

you can get a suitable charger from SMC, just ask for a standard JR charger. Told them the other day they should offer these with each DX7 ordered as they have a boxful of brand new ones
