What's the standard method of operating the controls? Thumbs on top of the sticks or holding with thumb and finger?

most will say the "pinch method" thumb and for finger thats what I use but latley I have started to lapse into thumb only for certain manouvers. try to use thumb and fore finger but if after while you really dont get on then try just thumbs but be warned that with just thumbs theres a chance of yout thumbs slipping off the sticks

As per Edders...
I use a mix, personally.
Left stick = Thumb on top and index finger in front of the stick - almost a pinch.
Right stick = Thumb on top.
When I started flying, I used the pinch method on both, but as I progressed into 3D flight, I found myself needing to move the cyclic faster then my pinch grip would allow me. I think it's a personal thing.
Whatever works best for you

For years I could only fly with a transmitter tray and used the finger & thumb pinch method. I managed to wean myself off the tray and now use just a neckstrap but still pinch. Do whatever you feel comfortable with, in hindsight I think I'd prefer to fly thumbs only now but I flt helis and planes on different modes and the only difference is that I use thumbs onlt for planes, I'm sure if I tried thumbs only with helis I'd get confised and crash the bloody thing!Steve H

I use thumb on top and finger in front for support...sort of half pinch method but then I'm no 3D pilot for either flavour
