  • Good flightbox for a beginner??

    Hi all,

Another question from me, I'm sure you guys are fed up by now but I have things to know and need more input

What would you guys recommend out of these 2 boxes/cases please.

    We have the carrymaster here:

    http://www.abcmodelsport.net/p345250...ter-Combo.html

and the Deluxe Flight Package here:

    http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/ac...ightBoxes.html

These 12v battery chargers that come with these things just plug into the wall socket and you charge them from home I presume? I mean they're not for charging out in the field via the car are they?

    Cheers all.

PS: the Starter only has to turn over a TT39 on a Rappy so I presume it will do for now?

Go to a shop and look at them for real, even if your local shop doesn't do helis, they should have a selection aimed at plane flyers which are just fine.

I kinda get the impression that buying a whole package like the ones you've listed might appear to be good value, but in the long run, they'll probably be pretty poor quality.

      Ok mate, thank you.

I'll hold off till the weekend when I hit my (not so local) hobby shop

I did hear the Carrymaster was quite good though, anyone tried it?

The wall charger is for the glow stick. I use a std car charger to give the lead/acid battery a charge at home. That's the one used for the starter.

I also have one of those jump-start packs in the car anyway. They're great for back-up for the lead/acid & also for the charger for my lipos & Rx batteries.

The field looks more like a power station sometimes

I've been using the carrymaster for a few months now. No real problems with it, although the glow stick doesn't have a meter on it but thats not essential.

            Cheers Paul.

Same as Made2Fade here, but mine's dark blue!

Had it for 5 years or more. Last week the handle fixing started to tear out of the lid, ripping the plastic, so it's had some hurried plywood fettling to keep it going for a while longer.

Can't complain, given the amount of use it's had 2-3 times a week nearly every week of those 5 years.

                Hmm, thanks.

The list of what's included is a bit sparse, can you tell me what else it comes with?

                Cheers

                  Errrr, nothing really.

It's a good sized box with removeable partitions on the inside. The two ends are removeable sections - one holds a gallon (or smaller) fuel container with a velcro strap, and the other holds all your starting gear including battery, flight panel, starter, glow stick etc etc. The box lid has two sets of bits'n'bobs compartments.

So, if you need to (and I've done once at someone else's flying field which was a very long walk from the parked car!), you can detach the starter pack and leave the box behind.

Unless, they're now selling it as a box with a load of accesories included? When I got mine, it was just the flight box.

Sorry - Doh - just checked th elink again - it is a package.

Err, I just use a stanley .... on wheels, opens into two boxes... holds two bottles of fuel, starter, battery, charger, all my tools, glow etc etc, lots of 240v chargers, my TX my manuals, my insurance details.. blah blah...

                    get 'em in homebase IIRC.

Yeh mine to was just the box. Im sure they sell them seperate. Ive had mine for a good 7 years now and its still going strong. One of the hinges on the bits and bobs compartments on the top snapped off. It was probably my fault though, being too heavy handed and impatient. You can get loads of stuff in the centre compartment. Far more than you could in the carrymaster.
Depends what your after though. The carrymaster looks a bit more compact and easier to carry. Very handy if your just gonna pop out for a little bit hovering. The ripmax one is probably more aimed at a person whos down the club field most weekends. Someone who might do a repair in the field (hence the bits and bobs compartments and space in the box itself).

I bought that case then bought the ripmax pump panel... the case is made for the ripmax pump panel to fit straight in. Also its got a female charging socket on the detachable section that holds your battery and starting gear. Really handy because u can just hook it off the flight box at the end of a days flying and plug your charger straight in. Other boxes you would need to drag the whole flightbox to where ever your charger is in the house (or unhook the gel cell battery from the box).
