  • twister medevac flying time

    Hi All

I got my first heli for xmas, a twister bell medevac.....

having great fun with it and have already leant to hover and move around the room with the tail towards me... just got to learn with the canopy towards me now!!

however i only get about 10-15mins flying time before having to recharge the battery (1hr-1.5hrs) and so feel that my learning curve is being limited...

I can of course buy a couple of extra batteries..however i was wondering if there was any higher power replacement batteries that i could use to give me longer flying time per battery...

    i found this

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...5627&rd=1&rd=1

i found the spec of the battery that comes with the medevac.
    Lithium Polymer (Li-Poly)
    Cells - 2 (7.4V)
    Capacity - 800mAh
    Weight - 43g
    Size - 50 x 30 x 14.5mm
    Maximum Charge - 1c (800mAh)
    Continuous Discharge - 10c (8 Amp)
Battery Lead - Silicone + JST

the one on ebay is a bit bigger in size and twice the weight... i added 40g of weight to my medevac and it seemed to fly ok, i also think that i will be able to 'alter' the battery holder to accomodate the big size...

    however my questions are:
will the 1800mah battery be ok to use on the medevac?
does the 1800mah battery mean i will get 2X the flying time?
if so should i get one of the medevac motor heatsinks to keep them cooler?

    thanks for your help

the problem is that the extra weight will reduce the flying time as you will need more power to lift the weight.

so the actual gain in flight time might not be as good as you would expect.

Best to stick with the same size as you have because after a 10 - 15 min flight the motors are very hot on the heli and realy do need cooling down,
Running them to hot will most certainly damage them,
      Great fun arent they

At the end of the day, waiting while your batteries charge is not a bad thing. If you were flying nitro, you might have to wait days between flying sessions, depending on availability of your local flying field.

Personally I intend taking the spare battery route, but will still need to allow time for the motors to cool down. I reckon this should maximise my flight time and allow me to climb that learning curve as fast as could be reasonably expected.

Yes a spare battery is a good idea as oyu have to wait an hour for them to charge but cheap batteries from the Far East tend to have life time fo 2 seconds and a the power of a unbranded AA battery.

Get an original battery, it may cost more but it will work.

I've got 3 medevac batteries now....

If you want your battery to charge a bit faster use a 12V power supply for the charger instead of the wall one supplied.

I have never had so much fun since.....

              gain and proportional

              Hi all
got another battery on order now... flying is getting better by the day!! able to hover in every direction and fly tail towards me and nose towards me just side on now...

              however need advise...
my medevac turns left (Yaw left) twice as quick as it turns right (Yaw right), i see that on the gyro mix there is two dials, gain and proportional,

would it be one of these that needs to be changed to get it to turn/spin evenly?

if so can someone explain which does what please!!!

              thanks for your help

It will be the proportional but if it's like my medevac it will vary with the battery power and you'll have to trim it out.

In my case with full trim it (eventually) still wants to turn all the time.

Good practice for when i get me Raptor all sorted but with that I'll have a GY401 combo so it will probably be easier
