  • Ok, I'm nearly ready with my new (1st ever heli)

    Hi ,
Me again with more noob questions (sorry)

I'm just waiting for the Raptor to be delivered and I have a few question bothering me.

I will have a Futaba T-7CP Tx and I was wondering what Receiver battery's I should be using.
I'll be using the default servos that ship with the radio (S3001's) and maybe a CSM HLG 200 with a Futaba S9404. It's only gonna be light hovers and hopefully circuits for a while

I'm not sure that the lil pack of rechargeable batts that come with the radio are good enough.
What should I buy please guys?

Ideally you need something like a 2400mah sub c cell NIMH

Not sure of the mah of the supplied pack

      Thanks.

The supplied pack is 4.8v at 700 mAh.

This hobby is getting very expensive

      Are those servos ok btw?

I've got 2100mah (4 x AA cell size) Rx batts. What would be the difference going to sub-c cells? anything or nothing (similar mah)? Other than heavier

The supplied pack will get you airbourne and with a full charge and your proposed servos etc it will give you a couple of tanks before recharging, but keep an eye on it with a battery checker and top up between flights and youll be OK

The 3001`s will do the job, they are not brilliant but are still more than capable for the time being,,

I have to recommend the Futaba 401 gyro and 9253 or 9254 tail servo as its a brilliant all rounder and i love them

The CSM 200 is a very basic gyro,it will do the job but i personally dont rate them much,,if you are on a tight budget and cannot run to a 401 for now then it will get you airbourne,,you will be able to sell it on but they dont fetch much i think

Im not actually 100% sure on this,i was led to believe that the larger cells can supply more oomph so to speak

I suppose that's amps, so on a set up with mainly normal servos the lighter AA cells should be OK. Guess digi servos need more 'oomph' as you put it.

              Thanks

The smaller cells are much more prone to memory effects and fail a lot quicker than the bigger ones.

A 2000 mAh AA cell sized pack might be perfectly ok one flight, and completely mullered the next. They can also fail without warning in flight - I've seen it happen in a 3DNT with a 1700 mAh AA size pack.

The sub-Cs are not immune to failure, but they are much more tolerant to abuse, and will generally put up with a lot more. The memory effect is where you (for example) charge your pack up, go flying, have 2 flights and go home. Next day you do exactly the same, and so on. The pack will become accustomed to the way in which it is being charged and discharged, and will operate fine within these perameters. But then one day, it's a lovely afternoon, and you decide to have 3 flights - all of a sudden the pack fails, because it's now outside of its memory effect.

Basically, the sub-C packs are much more reliable and there's no significant price difference.

Cheers Manager, got all that My 2100s haven't had too many flights through them yet, so I might buy a set of Sub-c cells for my Raptor & keep the AAs for the Swift where weight may be more of any issue.

I use a Futaba checker & regularly cycle the packs & re-charge regularly too.

Always something to spend dosh on isn't there?

                  Thanks

Okies, are these ok for a raptor 30 to lug around?

                      http://www.e-flight.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=204

Maybe you guys can suggest something better for me

Just had a thought. The standard Futaba charger will take forever to charge these (I guess)

                      What would you guys recommend?

Forgive all these question, it's horrible being a noob but I seem to get better help here than anywhere.

i was under the impression only nicads suffer from the memory effect not nimahs,

2100 mah divided by the output of the charger example 70mah = 30 hours,

biggest output rx i can see is 150mah

                          2100/150= 14 hrs

could go the fast charge route, im going this at the end of the month cant afford the 1 ade recommended at the moment have to wait to pay day.
Pro-Peak Constellation Charger 1 off these

                          kevinh

and yes the expense is never ending seems that way anyhow

I'm thinking of a nimh pack.

                              Do they suffer memory?
Can they be charged using a std charger. What, if any' is the charging difference?

                              Thanks all
