  • hard landing

    hello all and seasons greeting.
i have a problem whith my mini pred (simular to wd/60).
i get it to hover at around 1.5 metres no problem there, and very stable. but my problems start when i try and set the heli down, i can not get it to land nice and steady, i dont crash but its always has a heavy landing . is it pilot error or do need to set the tranny up for better landings any ideas, kind regards, martyn.

Soften your pitch curve around the middle stick position, and land with a tiny-weenie touch of forward motion.

      Hi Martin.

Unless you have a transmitter with 5 point pitch curve adjustment where you could 'Soften' the pitch around the hover point I'm not sure you can do much except be careful to be honest!

Would I be right in thinking that the mini-Pred TX has adjustable knobs for pitch and throttle? You could try raising the throttle or lower the pitch slightly?

It could be dumping headspeed as you lower the heli & and stalling/Overloading the blades slightly.
In which case reducing pitch or increasing throttle should cure it.
      Cheers,

      Gazza

Not sure mate, the instructions should tell you??
If not place a hammer or something heavy across the skids to weigh the heli down, run the heli up so its just under the point of being light on the skids.

Very carefully increase one of the knobs.
If the headspeed falls and you hear the head struggling then you've found the pitch adjustment.

If the headspeed increases then you've found the throttle adjustment.
          Cheers,

          Gazza

Down for the pitch and up for the throttle mate.
Try the pitch first, if that doesnt work put it back to where it was and try the throttle. a bit of playing around should find the sweet spot and prevent further heavy landings
              Cheers,

Hi Martyn - Glad you're now flying something !!! Maybe look at your pitch ranges - sounds like you have too much negative pitch for the head speed - while learning I'd have 0 pitch at low stick around 4-5 degrees at mid stick and no more than 11 at high stich - I suspect you have negative pitch at low stick at present which is fine for 3D but a bugger for soft landings while you're learning to hover.

Got the blades from elite models in ashford. Cost me roughly £25.
get the impression they are basically the same as the falcon 3d in size and fitting. Also the new blades sound great
