  • Imported Radios

    Hello

I am planning on investing in a 50 size heli but thought I would spend some time on a simulator first. Going to pick up a copy Phoenix but am unsure about where to purchase my radio. Have decided on a JR PCM9X II and from reading various forums understand that there are substantial savings to be made by ordering from overseas. I appreciate that there would be no warranty cover in the UK for an imported 35Mhz JR radio but is there anything else I should be aware of?

I have read that BMFA insurance may be invalid if using imported equipment, is this true? Also, can you buddy box between a uk and imported set?

I would appreciate your advice before I shell out the cash.

All 9x`s are the same and can be used with other JR radios for buddying

The module supplied with it determines the frequency,if you get a 35meg module you are fine

Nothing at all wrong with importing, its just that Uk distributors dont like it because it shows how much they rip us off

There is a difference. You can't transfer models between a UK set and an import.

At least this goes for the radios that probuild import

Also make sure you get the idle switch in the correct place

I believe you cant use the data transfer from 1 tx to another

Cant do this with many JR ones anyway, the 9x wont send to the 9x 2 etc

Simple enough to manually copy data across

My girlfriend was flying her trainer on Sunday on the buddy lead,i was using my normal JR 35meg Tx to be the master and programmed my DX7 as her transmitter,,she likes it because its light

          Worked a treat

My mate bought one from Probuild and it won't transfer to a UK 9x2. However some imports do. Also his idle up switch is where it was on the 3810.

Just thought I'd mention it. Worth checking before you buy

I don't think this applies to all imported sets though

                  Thanks for the advice.

Being a newbie I am not sure where the correct place for the idle up switch is. Can you describe for me so I can ask?

Top left of transmitter as you're looking down on it from the front

There are two switches on the top of my tx. (UK PCM 9X2) Right hand side Aft one is the trainer switch and the other more fwd of the two is a three position stunt mode switch (idle up)

On some imports it is on the front right at the upper end of the tx. Two switches, outboard one is the Alieron d/r and inboard is the idle up.

                      Hope this helps

Check out this link page 6. They call it a flight mode switch.
