  • Twister 3D tail waggle

After getting the cylic and swash sorted, balancing blades and paddles and making a new drive shaft from some solid brass rod I now have a beautiful smooth rotating heli without cyclic drift fore and aft - my initial orgasmic delight and lift off was curtailed by the waggle of tail - which I hadn't had in previous adventures. I've centred and 90 degreed everything, checked ATV to ensure no servo binding. I have aHelibee gyro into Futaba 6 Super with dual rate lead going into channel 5. ATV on rudder about 30% and ATV on the dual rate chennel at 50% as per gyro instructions. No creep at rest but spooling up above half throttle starts the waggle - any ideas ? Thanks.

PS All throttle related tail rotor compensation inhibited.

    Hiya,

Not sure if the 6 super has a Gyro function but if it has you should really try to use that screen. That will allow you to set the gain. Most Gyros normally let you set the travelk limit via a trim pot on the actual Gyro unit. This negates the need to alter channel 4 (rudder) ATV settings, these should be set at 100%. Your dual rate function alters the amount of travel for whatever channel you select e.g. if you alter channel 3 dual rate when you flick the switch the travel will be less or more depending on the values.

So if the Gyro has remote gain function, which I think it does and an adjustable pot for travel on the unit you will need to:

    1. Reset channel 4 atvs to 100%
    2. Reset channel 4 and 5 dual rates to default.
    3. Adjust the limit pot on the gyro to give you the required rudder travel.
    4. go the Gyro menu within the Radio and set it at 60 % to start.
    5. Fly the heli and be carefull when spooling up that the heli responds as it should. If it wags turn down the gain, if it drifts turn it up.

Just had a look at your radio and if it is the 6 super heli version you will have the Gyro function. Also looked at the gyro, set the rudder travel by adjusting the servo horn length or the hole you use as there is no way to alter this travel on the gyro and according to a website I looked at you should not try to adjust the rudder servo travel by the ATVs as it limits the gyros performance.

so if you set the rudder servo travel by adjust the size of the servo horn etc and follow what I have said above it SHOULD work. That said make a note of all your current settings so if it does not you can return it to the point you are at now.
