a heli likes a certain headspeed. and an engine (or electric motor) has a speed where it has the most power.
for instance the knight likes 2000rpm and the hyper has peak power at 17000rpm divide one by the other and it gives you a gear ratio of 8.5
however, you want to be running at a little over peak power so that when you load the model the toeque increases. which is why the knight and the new raptor titan have gone up to 8.7 which gives 17400rpm on the engine for a 2000rpm headspeed.
