Throttle and pitch curve advice

The old throttle and pitch curve question. I have had a few flights hovering my Blade 230 only in normal or stability mode and a quick go in idle up 1. Basically normal has a linear throttle curve and the pitch curve doesn’t have full negative. The idle up curves are flat throttle and full neg and positive pitch. I don’t intend to fly 3D I just intend to do sport flying. I want to setup normal and idle1 the same probably using the pitch curve from normal but should I change both to linear or to a flat curve? it depends on how good the soft start is on the blade 230 but if its good then you can forget normal mode all together. Just have a flat line for throttle a bit lower for once and high for the other.

all ways use the same pitch curve in all flight modes.

Do you have a simulator? www.accurcsimulator.com is cheap, accurate and will save you a lot of time and money when learning.

Thanks Ade, just waiting for my programming cable to arrive and I’ll change it. I haven’t got a sim yet, I’m looking into it but just recovering from Christmas lol.

+1 on above, I'd get rid of the normal mode curve, just use all flat line curves and start/stop the motor with the throttle hold switch. Much easier and simpler that way and the heli will fly FAR better then your linear curve (you should never use a linear curve on a CP heli)

I normally set up helicopters for beginners with 'Normal' and the other flight modes set to  0, 65,65,65,65 throttle curve and throttle cut activated too, so they get into the habit of activating the throttle cut switch before powering up the helicopter and after landing.   A straight pitch line is set up to ease the transition later into flying in idle up mode, and to prevent major pitch changes when inadvertantly switching between flight modes.  When they become more confident, I leave the Normal throttle curve as it it is, but reset idle up 1 to 65,65,65,65,65 and if they have it - idle up 2 to 75,75,75,75,75. 

As with all set ups - one mans meat is another mans poison, but whatever you chose to do, safety must be your prime concern, as even an MCP-x can inflict some pretty serious injuries.  My advice would be to get a sim and practice the simple moves during lockdown, then Join a club because the help and information from fellow fliers (not to0 mention the banter) is invaluable.

My cable came yesterday, throttle set a straight 75 pitch curve also tamed the main thing is normal and idle up 1 are the same. I’m In the process of joining a local club. I live out in the sticks and the local park is deserted this time of year so I’ve been hovering around there when it is quiet.

Went for a fly this morning with the new settings. I found it much better. It was a bit breezy but I managed some nice tail in hover in idle up with the added confidence that if I got out of control I just flipped it into normal mode and the heli levelled up and I could regain safe control.

Great to hear. The key thing with any throttle curve is to bear in mind that a collective pitch heli is meant to run at a fixed RPM, just like real helis do.
