  • First Electric for biginner??

Question probably been asked 100s of times before, but am woundering whats my best bet for my first electirc heli, dont really want to spend more than £100, seen a few on ebay they all seem to be from Hong King! Just want one to use in m back garden is a fair size, so am just looking for a heli to arse about with, and nothing too serious, yet!

    where abouts are you based?

all the small stuff is pretty nasty and difficult to fly even with some experience on the bigger stuff.

The J Perkins twister is a £100 heli thats all built and in the box ready to go,its got twin contrarotating blades and is very stable and unintimidating.

Its ok for learning hovering and basic stooging around only really but is good for indoor also and is quite cheap to fix and easy to fly..

Many small electrics are twitchy and dont make a sensible learning platform..

Yes the Twister Bell types are a good starting point, I still find it fun to fly in the house BUT if you like it and get the bug you will soon want to go outside and the budget will need a review !! Helis can just suck your money away...... but well worth it !!
Fly today, tomorrow it may be too late !!

i got in to heli's about 5 weeks ago. got myself a hummingbird off of ebay for £60 delivered. so far its cost me about £20 in parts while learning (set of blades and a few head parts), but within 3 weeks and about 4 hours of practicing i had it hovering (albeit not very controllably).

A mate has a raptor 30, and that was it, i had to have one! so my "cheap" hobby has now cost me about £600 for the raptor and parts ive broken so far, but i find it far easier to learn with, being so much more stable in the air. Ive had 2 accidents so far. the first was down to a faulty receiver battery which died after 2 minutes of use while in a hover about a foot up. it just banked in to the ground and killed the flybar and a set of carbon blades the second accident came on thursday night when i had been flying it faultlessly for about an hour and a hal. it was in a hover about 10 foot up, when one of the training struts came out of the part that grips them in the middle. it got pulled up in to the blades and fell out of the sky. lukkily it was in a perfect hover at the time, so landing the right way up and didnt do any other damage than the blades.

ah well, its a learning curve!

Sound like you had a stroke of luck by having a mate with a helicopter. Someone you can rely on to help you out. Good luck with it mate, happy flying and keep practising. Cuz i know im going to have to :P

yeah hes helped a lot with the basics, but hes only a novice really (albeit much better than me!) he's just in the process of mastering nose in, so im a little way behind him at the moment, but i will keep practicing, probably with the hummingbird to start with, and i will get there!

i want to get down to ade for him to set it up properly, but he's a bit far from me really, so would like to find someone more local ideally.
