Beginner issues

Hi every one,

I have just bought my-self another heli (Had a nexus 30, but had too sell it after only 3wks due to money problems at the time), and know roughly how to hover, and change direction as a mate of mine showed me how with his raptor 50, thing is this was 6-7 mths ago, and i had the cash now and got myself a Caliber 30 second hand to learn with.
I have set the controller up with the heli "roughly" but its nearing time for its first flight, any tips or sugjestions?? I have a large field out next to my house, and have permission to use it (it is big) so think i have the space to fly it with out any risk to anyone but myself really!

I have checked the gyro works on the heli, and everyting moves as it should...so it looks like its ready, the main thing that is bothering me it the idle throttle! I have set up the Throttle cut, but not sure where to set the engine throttle to start the heli, i have got it just under quarter open..but is this too much??

Quarter throttle sounds a bit high.

I would go for half that much - about an eighth throttle.

When you start it for the first time, hold on for dear life to the rotor head, and have the transmitter very handy so that you can increase or decrease the trim as necessary. Shouldn't go far wrong - just be prepared.

I once got the throttle going the wrong way round in my Sceadu 50 and started it on full throttle before I realised! It was quite tough trying to hold it still as the clutch burnt out and then exploded! New clutch and liner - £60 and a new flybar where I pulled the heli in close to my body to hold it safe and bent the flybar.

theres no such thing as a rough setup unless you want to make life very difficult for yourself get it spot on.

take it to the local club field and get them to check it over.

i have seen the results of what can happen learning on your own

From the sounds of what you have said, I would agree with the others here. If you arent sure about the radio setup, you must for safety's sake, seek the assistance of an expereinced pilot, be it through a club or by finding a local flight school who will I'm sure be happy to help.

Please whatever you do, dont attempt to start or run the heli in its current state without having it checked over and test flown first.
