once you get out into the circuit they are useful.
Once you start doing aeros its definitely a pain not to have one.
CSM rev-lock is the best imo.

anybody can be an Arsehole, it takes real commitment, dedication and a whole lot of effort to be nice.
I flew without one for a long time doing aeros, since having one the heli is much smoother and a nice constant headspeed keeps the gyros workload down with a steady tail speed,it protects the engine from over revving which can be hard on them,i would say they are a worthwhile addition to a model,i personally see them as being as essential as a gyro on my models now.
exactly, its got to the point where if i have a problem with a sensor i dont bother flying. too much like hard work.

Yep thats me also...But having said that i have had a fleet of 3 to 4 helis now for over 2 years using Revlocks and TJ pros and i think i lost 1 magnet in all that time on 1 model so all in all they are fit and forget items really.
I prefer TJ Pros but do have a CSM Revlock which i am not using now,to me there was no difference in the performance but my level of ability probably doesnt work either too hard,i know thats its widely accepted that the Revlock has edge though.

What i found without one is that you really need to set a curve up for each type of manouvre,
For instance i used to have a normal curve of 0 to 100% throttle and an idle up 1 for flying around and allowing powered descents of say 30% to 100% throttle, then an idle up 2 curve of 100% at bottom stick and top stick and 50% in midstick zero pitch position for doing aerobatics which was great for doing big loops and inverted flight etc but if you were wishing to descend you would be decreasing pitch which offloads the engine and head but adding throttle so you get an overspeed.
By fitting a governor i am locking the engine to a set speed and see it as just flying on pitch,i can throw the model around the sky come in the right way up for a fast descent with loads of negative and let the governor take care of things.
On another point i found it easy to overspeed wooden blades when doing aeros which is not really a good thing to keep doing.
To sum it up a governor will compliment your model and your flying well..
