Dave,
I started off with a nitro Raptor a few years ago, had a break and then decided to get back into it a few months ago.
I wanted to go electric as I just hate nitro engines! I've had Cars, planes and heli's all nitro and electric.
I got a Walkera dragonfly 36 a couple of months ago to get me into it.
Big mistake...
Its a nice looking heli, very similar to the Zoom 400 but its nasty. Loads of play and slop in it, and just very very difficult to get set up and fly.
You pretty much have to replace all the parts to get it to fly okay, in which case whats the point?? May as well spend the money on something else.
I now own a Twister CP V2, and its fantastic. it flies well, it comes with everything you need including TWO Lipo's and even a charger and Leeds model shop is selling them for £164.99, which is the cheapest I've seen anywhere. Carbon blades as standard too, and 15 minute flight times.
As with all the micro helis it's a bit of a handfull outdoors if theres any wind, but on calm days its a blast and flies beautifully.
I looked at, and nearly bought the Twister 3D today, as my next heli. But its just still too small and limited, and I didnt think I would be gaining much over what I have already. Apart from having a proper tail rotor.
I'm now going for a Century swift, which is nearly as big as a raptor.
I'm going to buy just the Heli tomorrow for £169.99 and make it my project.
Granted, the electronics and batteries will cost a bit, the Lipo's are 100 quid each...!! But it will work out cheaper than a nitro raptor in the long run when I'm not buying 30 quids worth of fuel every week. www.rcuniverse.com has a good swift review and videos.
The Twister will do me just fine till I get the swift together!
