  • Raptor 30 or 50???

    Morning chaps!!!

Ok, here is the deal... now the owner of a Hitec transmitter and reflex sim...and loving everyminute of it.. "Taxi for one to Looseville please!"

    BUT......

I need to get a heli asap..reason being is the Missus has put a ban on spending next month-til next year ( wedding next year!!! ). so..in short..I need to buy it now, even if I don't use it for a month.

My question to you guys is..what one is better for me? Is the Raptor the way to go? and also exactly what bits do I still need... everything?? :?:

With your help I could get on ordered today in time for the looming "wedding curfew!!!"

    Cheers

    Mike

If I was you, I would take enough money out of the bank to fund a 50, hide it, tell the wife to be it has been ordered but will take a few weeks to come.
Now you can pick at your leisure
Maybe take out a bit more just for good measure

the answer is based purely on your budget. The more money you spend now the less you spend later. Have a read of this.

even if you dont buy from me it will give you the general idea.

which hitec radio did you get?

I got the Hitec optic 6..if thats right

The guys at Sussex model centre said it would be a good one...

Although there are a hell of a lot of switches on it that I have no idea what they do...

So..if I was to take out enough for a heli... would the 30 or the 50 be better?...and where can I hide it...

Ed, Don't sign anything on my wedding day...are you crazy..a pre-nupt will be the only thing

Before we all bombard you with loads on info that you will not be able to relate to, I reckon your best bet is to get a look over a heli so can see what parts make up a complete system and understand the termonology.

There are often bargins to be had on http://www.bmfa.co.uk/class/index.php or eBay but you need to have an idea of what your getting.

A couple hours with Ade would be a good idea (he's starting to get a fan club on here, I think Bandicoot wants his babie) He'll give you a good insite into your new hobby.

50 would be better to learn on. It sits better in the hover and is more stable than the 30. I know cuz ive got both and the 50 flys alot better. The spares are basically a smidging more expensive but hey what do you expect its a better/more powerful helicopter. The 50 has got the power and more chance of getting you out of bother when learning. Well thats my opinion anyways. Go for a 50 if you can afford it. Better still if ya cant afford it, buy the kit build it and save more money for the rest of the gear when you are doing that. Just remember to get someone to check/fly it before you ever do. Do it that way and learn about how that particular helicopter works as your building it. This will help you in the future when you crash and have to make repairs. And beleive me you will crash sometime... well unless your planning on learning on a buddy box system.

50 is always better than a 30, but more exopensive to fix - slightly.

If you can afford it - 60/70/90 helis are the easiest to fly, and learn by a mile.

Raptor 30 is a 50 machine with a 30 Engine. Sceadu is as well (and much better in my opinion). Raptor and Sceadu can esily (and cheaply) be upgraded from a 30 to a 50.

Shuttle is a 30 machine and no more.

Best first heli is Raptor 30 or Sceadu 30.

Like yourself, I'm also a newbie. I've recently bought all my kit and am busy with the building process. I done an awful lot of reading and joined a local club, where you obviously get to chat to guys who've been in the hobby for years. They run mainly Hirobo Sceadus at the club, although there are Raptors as well. Everything I read and heard pointed me to the Sceadu and away from the Raptor. Apparently, it just flies so much nicer. Going for the sim was a great idea. I'm hanging on to see what the new Phoenix sim looks like, but I'm gonna get one for sure. Whilst you're budgetting, remember to include all of the field equipment as well. If you're gonna buy kit form, also remember to budget for any tools you may need - I had to buy some tools including a set of 4 hex drivers which cost me 13. I budgetted for my initial setup and didn't exactly hit the mark. However, I'm not saving for a wedding which, I believe, costs a fortune in the UK.

I'm not too sure about best prices for the Raptors, but Skyline and Inwood Models do great prices for the Sceadu with motor. I paid just over 370 for my Sceadu 50 with the OS 50 Hyper motor, which I think is a great price.

Do try and join a club - it's great to mix with people who share the same passion for what I think is a great hobby. Good luck with your research and, ultimately, your purchase.
