  • Newbie..which sim and which radio???

    Hi guys,

I think its best if I get the above first before the outlay of a heli. Can you recommend which ones to go for?

Am I right in making this decision?

    Cheers

    Mike

at the moment the 9c is the best bang for buck. the JR 9x is a lot more money.

XTR is the current daddy of sims for helis. Although phoenix is on its way.

        Thanks guys...

I am going to source a supplier in Brighton today and go and buy a sim and Radio..so any furhter suggestions would be good

I take it the sim will teach me from scratch??..as I have no experience of flying or using a radio (except on my Ateam van when I was little!! )

I guess the Radio plugs into my laptop and the software links up with it..so...looks like the fiance will be a Sim widow for a bit!!

for a complete noob the realflight G3 simulator might be a better option as it comes with a dummy radio. This reduces the initial outlay to get you going and is easier to setup.

Model Zone in brighton has had some good service reports. However they also dont know much about helis. Sussex Model Centre is in worthing and worth the trip just to have a look.

Another option others have given you is to come down and see me for an hour or 2. Come down in good weather at the weekend and you will see the typical friendly club atmosphere as well as getting to fly a proper heli with no risk to yourself.

Just thinking as you were saying about the ports on your laptop. Make sure it is up to scratch for playing the simulators as they can be very demanding on your graphics. Not sure if reflex xtr will run good enough on a laptop mind. Unless its a beast. What spec is it? Just another thought before you run out and buy one.

              I agree with M2F

please double check your laptops specs as Sims like reflex are very graphics hungry

I run Reflex on a Del Laptop but i have an ATI X300 128 Mb PCI Express Graphics card i also have 1 GB of Ram that seems to help

Reflex runs lovley at about 60 frames per second and very smooth

however on some more highly speced computers the frame rate can be much higher

If your laptop is a bit challenged in the graphics card department then there are some settings you can change Like turning down the resolution and turning off some of the special effects like smoke etc

Another good one is to use the reflex computer generated scenery asopposed to the photo realistic scenery as this puts lot less strain on your computing power

Hope this helps why dont you post and tell us your laptop specs and we maybe able to tell you if its suitable

              Cheers and good luck

forgot to mention that Reflex has a built in Hover training mode that will help complete beginners

I am also just learning to fly and am using the hover training mode its really help full

if you work your way down the options you will be able to advance quite quickly

What it does is removes many of the control inputs and lets you concentrate on just one control input like Ailerons (left to right) then it allows you to use just elevator (front to back) then you can use both together and so on until you have all controls

                its pretty good

i was surprised at how much effect each control has on the other especialy when you come to youse pitch with the others

Any way have fun its what its all about

                Cheers
