  • coming back to heli's

    Hi all

I used to fly RC helicopters when I was a teenager and got to the stage where I could comfortably fly but no 3D stuff.

Now that I've finished university and got myself a decent job I can afford to start flying them again.

I've still got my old Concept 30, but I'm not sure if I should sell it for something that has more readily available spares like the Raptor 30?

What do I need to do to prep my concept for flight bearing in mind it's sat for around 5 years.

Also, do I need insurance to fly?

    Thanks in advance,

    Danny

Insurance is not compulsary per-se but only a fool would not get insurance from the BMFA because if your flying and you get some interferance and your heli crashes and kills someone, your in seriously deep doo-daa without insurance.

As if the guilt of killing someone was not bad enough, you would be financially ruined from the legal fee's and compensation. Issurance covers all this.

Worst case scenario of course, but it could happen.

Welcome back to flying helis! I hope your excited. I wish i had started this hobby when i got my first job after uni but now i am playing catch up hehe.

        Hi
I'd sell the concept and get a Raptor.

The conecpt parts seem to cost more and fewer places
        have them.

Raptor would be a better option

Bit of a plug I know but meant well, if you want to bring the model over to the shop on Saturday or any other day if you can get away from work and we will
have a look over it for you and let you know if it is worth trying to get a last bit of life out of the old Concept or chuck it on Ebay and get something more modern.
We are about 40 mins from Reading or 25 mins if you know the back ways and can avoid the M4.

          Cheers

Hi Danny, welcome back to the hobby.

Get insurance, from the BMFA, but you don't have to join a club to do that, you can get it direct from the BMFA web site.

If you decide to get a more modern heli, my advice, particularly as you have flying experiance already, is to get a 50 size, as you'll quickly out grow a 30.

Go see Bob, he'll get you sorted out whichever way you decide to go, and maybe he'll make you a coffee

Hi BobJ, thanks for the offer, i'll prep the concept as much as I can and bring it over.
BTW, you could do with making the address a bit more accessible on your website; perhaps under 'contact us'.

Hi Janek, I've got a 1st generation Millennium 60 that I bought years ago when in Germany, it's almost completely ready to fly (just needs the exhaust system fitting).
I was planning to fly that when I outgrow the concept 30.

Thanks for the friendly welcome guys.

Danny, Bob's your man for the Milly as well, he's a bit of an expert

Maybe you should take both heli's with you to Skyline
