  • XRB SR Lama Is Tops

Just over a week ago, I posted to this forum in the hope that the seasoned experts would help me make the right purchase for my first heli. The Scottish weather does not favour outdoor flying at this time of the year so I was looking for a heli suitable for indoor flying. Well, to cut to the chase, I bought the Hirobo XRB SR Lama which arrived on Monday. I'd already purchased a spare LiPo at the weekend so I was ready to rock 'n' roll. First of all, the packaging is superb which, for me, is always a good indication that the stuff inside is also of a high quality and, in this respect, I was not dissapointed. The package, to my surprise, also comes with 3 complete sets of spare blades, a blade balancer and training under carriage. So, how is it ? Well, fun doesn't even start to describe it. After just 2 days flying I'm already well into tail-in hovering and not 10 minutes ago I managed to maintain a controlled hover for well over 3 minutes.

Why am I posting this ? Well, quite simple. I'm sure there are lots of wanna be heli pilots out there who would love to be flying a little heli round their living rooms whilst they decide whether or not this hobby is for them. However, it's not immediately obvious which heli is the right choice to start off with. I was initially drawn to the streamlined looks of the Twister CP and Century Hummingbird but I'm now so glad that the good advice from those in the know managed to sway me towards the Lama. If, like me, you don't have a tennis court sized living room, then I would strongly recommend the Lama.

I've read complaints that the Lama is expensive but, as far as I'm concerned, it is worth every penny. I've plans to move up in this hobby and this little heli allows me to concentrate on perfecting my stick control. I don't have to wrestle with the Lama, it's very forgiving, which is of paramount importance at this stage and it doesn't zoom all round the room like a balloon that you've just inflated and then let go of.

So, what next ? That's easy - more stick time and, hopefully, a second charger so I can have even more stick time.

If you're in the same boat as I was this time last week, do yourself a favour and take a serious look at the Lama - you won't be dissapointed !

        You made the right choice

Your problems will now increase though as your fleet starts to expand and your bank account gets empty rapidly  8O

            This resting between flights??

I have the Twister Bell47 - like the Lama but 1/3rd the price.

I also have 2 battery packs that I have fully charged and spend about 15 minutes with the motors running ........ is this ok, or too long?

They then cool for hours while I charge the packs again.

Plus, why do they NOT come with heatsinks - but heatsinks are offered as spare parts??

If your running through 2 battery packs on the trot with no heatsinks then your motors are not gonna last long. GIve it 10 mins between the first and second packs i would. The motors on my twister bell are damn hot after only 10 mins.

The motors on my Ikarus Eco Piccolo do not get hot at all by comparison!
