Well my kit is only a few weeks old. I have the XL motor. If theres not much in it price wise get that one. Its better than the standard motor that came with the first release of the kits. Or so they say. Ive only flown this one.

And if and when you get good enough to need the extra theres also the new 600 ESP with all the bling etc.

Although I decided to wait for that as I expect I'll be crashing the 600e CF I have soon enough so why do that to the more expensive heli?

It may look good but it will certainly cost more to repair!

I went along to my local for the first time today and came away mentally frayed but pretty happy. Bearing in mind I've only recently learnt how to get through a couple of batteries with my CX2 and crashed my Blade 400 everytime I've tried to fly it, I was nervous to say the least when the guy there said to have a go with a Raptor 50 on the buddy box.
I became even more nervous when this ate a piston prior to me having a go and a friend of mine suggested we use his instead. You've just got to take your hat off to someone that will trust you with their heli, especially as he knew my track record.
Anyway I had a couple of flights with it, during which I had to be rescued a couple of times but only one of which was near to a crash, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was far more stable than my smaller heli's, although I didn't push my luck with a third flight in case the ground got lucky! I'm told I'll get far more stick time with a nitro, excluding crashes, than an electric as others on here have stated.

The only thing that's gnawing away at the back of my mind is that I actually prefer the quietness of the electric heli's. Sadly my budget is limited and to buy even only 3 decent lipo's is a sizeable chunk of money. My LHS is quoting £180.00 each for Thunder Power lipo's, and your run time is limited by the number of lipo's you have. £540.00 on 3 batteries is a large chunk of money to dosh out that initially would be a big help in getting reasonable quality electrics into a ntiro, if that makes sense.
Unless anyone can tell me of some decent 6S lipo's at half sensible money I'll have to join the 'stinky' brigade!

The Budget RC 6s5000 Mah lipos are pretty decent for the money at £108 each if you buy 2.

I'll go get some Revo packs when I can use the performance they offer.

You have to remember its like buying all your fuel at once as opposed to buying as you go.

From a convenience point of view electric is the way to go and running costs are generally cheaper long term.

Also I like to actually be able to see my Heli when I fly it and not try and steer a pillar of smoke

Your heli will not be covered in an oily residue either.

At the end of the day its either turn up, switch on and fly! Or faff around trying to start a smelly nitro.
